I can't speak for some of the long termers because I haven't even hit a year yet - but I'm able to eat about a cup of everything combined - and be comfortable (that's 8oz).  Any more than that, and I've got an elephant sitting on my chest!

I've wondered this too, so thanks for posting.  I too can eat quite a bit - not a huge portion like pre wls but can eat a normal portion - much more than I was led to believe before I had rny.

I'll be watching the replies you get...

According to general standards of pouch size, stretch over time and efficiency of digestion over time, you should generally be able to 'contain' anywhere from 8-12 oz of food at a time. This leaves extra leighway if you have a very efficient pouch, or are eating over a course of time.

Good practice is to try to eat about 8 oz of food within a 15-20 min span, then stop. Whether you've finished or not, are still hungry or not. This is a good portion size, and limits the "grazing" that can occur when you have a large portion of something you really enjoy.

thank you, this is really useful information.  This will be very helpful in my portion control which I've let slip recently

Dear Prazz - Frankly I CAN eat a horse and chase it's rider  but, of course if I do I will gain.  So I count calories and carbs.  When I've eaten my calorie limit for the day - I STOP eating.  I need to plan ahead - at least one day, preferably two - and I need to write my plan.  Sometimes (often) when the day comes I modify it in some way (depending on what sounds good), but stay within my calorie limit.  Am I perfect - LOL  LOL   LOL - I'm human.  But this site has enabled me to get back/stay on track because of the caring, support, understanding and acceptance I've found here.

I hope you find this site as helpful as I have.  don't be shy   let us know how we can be of most help.  If you're comfortable, post often and allow us to share your journey \

OMG!  I have completely maintained my pouch size over the years.  I can, (if I'm lucky) take in 4 oz. of something like cottage cheese.  I can't tolerate ANY dense proteins.  Sometimes it gets depressing because I rely on protein shakes.  Luckily, I LOVE them and really don't mind for the most part.  I just wish that sometimes I could have alittle something now and then....

haha, how true that is, just because you can doesn't mean you should...one of my trip up points stated right there.

I haven't been preplanning lately and realise that I should.  I've been grabbing whatever is nearest or easiest and it isn't always the best choice!

Thanks for the reminders

Shelly,
I think that's great you have maintained a 4 oz limit. Mine tends to be about a cup depending on the consistency. So how well I chew effects it too. Meat and raw veggies fill me up quick which is what I should be eating anyway. But of course I tend to like soft stuff which helped get me here in the first place. Those "slider" foods.

Lo,

Yes, I guess it's a good thing that I maintained my pouch size, although I can't even eat raw veggies or meat.  It's ridiculous what 'comes back up'.        I chew, chew and chew....I still can only eat a couple bites of a taco or something.  And I'm stuffed!    Yep, slider foods is why I have 35 lbs that I have to lose!!!!  (and high calorie beverages).....
