Hi group, i lost 157 lbs with gastric bypass that I had in 2005, it was simple for me to get to my goal of 185 and keep it there until the last year or so, I've been slowly and not so slowly creeping up.  in the last month somehow i picked up an extra 12 lbs!  my husband lost 100 lbs via diet and excercise and he's gained about 30 extra pounds in the last year.  my ex husband's girlfriend just had gastric 3 weeks ago, and my thoughts were, "man oh man - i have got to get back on track!"  I'm going to cut out the high fat and almost all carbohydrates, and work out at least 5 days a week (focusing on cardio), and cut down portions, I can eat a normal size meal now and i think that's more than i should be eating with my body's special ability to gain!  i don't  really have time to go to meetings now, i really need support though, so i'm here, where i got so much excitement and motivation when i was trying to get gastric bypass.  i wish everyone well wether they are trying to lose weight the first time, post op, or like me - have regained some weight.  thanks for listening

Heya MiM...I'm in the first phase of trying to lose, and struggle daily with the carb monster and no time for true exercise. (My life is terribly hectic lately!)  I'm trying to make time for 'me', which means time for exercise, it's just not that easy to prioritize when I feel inside like everyone else comes first.

Feel free to private message me if you need to talk, or find me on Facebook if you need some instant help. (I"m usually around in some way shape or form).

Hang in there - there's plenty of room on the wagon for you too!

Welcome, MiM! My advice is to start out slow and steady on the exercise, because throwing yourself whole hog into the thing is going to cause a lot of aches and may deter you from continuing. I started running by walking. Literally!

I walked for 5 minutes, ran for 30 seconds, and vice versa, for 30 minutes a day, following a plan I found online. 6 or 7 weeks later, I could run 2 miles without stopping. 5 months later I can run 8 miles--that's 800 calories my body burns--at one time without stopping.

It is possible to do it gradually and continually so that aches, pains, and risk of injury are minimized.

Keeping a diet journal is also a great way to stay accountable!

Best of luck, sister--we're all Back On Track Together!

Hi MM,

I am 6 years out of surgery and have regained about 50lbs.
I never did reach my goal wieght.

I understand exactly where you are at! Espeically with your motivation of your ex!

I am trying to stay below 1000 calories right now and do 2 protien shakes a day.
it is really very hard!

exercise is hard for me too. i am trying to walk and ride my stationary bike.

if you want to "freind" me and be support pals, that would be great!

take care,
teresa

Hi MiM, and WELCOME to BOTT. You've certainly come to the right place for support. We're here for you in any way you need, if just to listen, cheerlead or advise.

What you need to remember is everything in moderation, including BOTTing! You can't do EVERYTHING in one day. You won't run a marathon today, you won't do 100 sit-ups today, you won't necessarily meet ALL your nutritional goals today... but you will try to get there. One thing I've learned is weight loss is definately NOT fast-paced. It took roughly 3 weeks for me to lose 10 lbs and keep it off (where I am now), but I dedicated myself to it. I did the right things, I made the right choices, I made up for it if I didn't make the right choices... I earned it, and I felt proud. It was nice to see those little increments decreasing on the scale. But it was little, a little here, a little there. That's what kills me about weightloss, I think. Its slow-going. But I think I finally learned and understand the principles behind it.

Best of luck to you, take small steps today for a better tomorrow!

MiM,

Congrats on taking the first step!! I am close to where you are at now at the weight gain. I had my RNY 4/05 and gained 26-lbs after never reaching goal weight. It's hard for me to cut back when I too am close to eating a full me, but am S-L-O-W-L-Y getting on track. What works for me is slowly incorporating small steps along the way.

Please come and post as often as you need too. This group is great for not making you feel bad when you slip off the wagon. We've all been there that's why we're here.
