Newbie...curious about the 5 day pouch test

Hi, my name is Jenn, accidentally came across this chat spot.  I had RNY July 08, down 130lbs, still have about 20lbs or so to go.  I have been at a stand still for a couple monthes now, got away from the exercise a bit, starting to forget about me again , terrible I know after all this work.  So, I am wondering about this 5 day pouch test that i have seen on here.  How does it work, and does it really help to get you on track again.  Please any ifo would be great.  Thanx so much in advance.

You can check www.5DPT.com the site provides all the information needed. I have tried it and it does help to rid you of the carb monster.

I'm not a huge advocate for the 5DPT only because I feel it gets rid of mostly water weight, and its not how you eat normally (although maybe it should be?)... I do feel it promotes good habits and ideals, though, and the idea behind it is good. I have never done it, and don't really plan to. I do my own version which is high water, high dense protein for 1 week, and put my body into ketosis, or monster carb/fat burning. I don't reccomend doing that more than a week at a time, though, as it doesn't give you all the nutrients you do need from carbs/veggies/other foods.

Whatever you decide to do, we're here to help you get through the hard moments!

Jenn,

I haven't tried the poch test. Thought about it many times and started it a couple, but decided it wasn't for me. As soon as I get my protein in, I'm going to do the "Plateau Busting" diet that Vivian Prouty (I think) posts on the RNY and main board. You do at least 50g liquid protein a day and 5 meals of 3 oz protein from the list. You can also have SF popsicles and pudding, etc. I feel like this one is best for me since it is similiar to what my PA suggests without the veggies. Its supposed to be for 10 days, but I'm only going to focus on 5. Also, there is a LPT or liquid protein train that has been posted on the boards. There is two different versions out there. The first is nothing but liquid protein and water for three days. The other is liquid protein, water and one meal a day for three days.

Hello, I am Jenn and new to the post and saw where you are going to try the Plateau Busting diet. I looked this up as well and I have ordered some protein and am going to try it as soon as it arrives. I had my RNY in May 2004. I started at 245 and went down to 157 and felt too thin at that time. I since then have had neck surgery which was a miserable 6 month ordeal that helped me get off track.I had to take prednisone for several months. No excuse, my fault but I got off track at that time. I moved due to my husbands job 18 hours away from family and friends in June. This has been a very difficult time in which I have gained 12 lbs just over the summer. That is when you would think that would be the easiest time to lose. I now weigh 192 and want to lose 30lbs. Do you think it is too late or that I have damaged my pouch? If you or anyone wants a partner doing the Plateau Busting let me know. I am desperate to get the weight off but feel as though I have no will power now. I need to get BACK ON TRACK! I am going home for Christmas so that is some encouragement.
Thanks,
Jenn

This is what I found on another board. I am not sure if this is the one that Michelle was speaking of or not. I am curious though to hear from others to see if anyone has tried it and if they actually lost weight and how much. I would be happy to do this with you!

You are amazing! I just want to say awesome for you for joining us here at BOTT.  You have a challenge, but not someting you cannot accomplish.  You know how, the BOTT guildlines are a great start.... back to basics.

Meanwhile, let us know how that protein order/plateau buster diet goes. We always want some new input.

You... however... don't mind me saying this.... don't need a partner. BOTT IS that partner. We are always here, at least one of us at some time (mostly me cuz I'm a lonely geek-a-saurus-slash-awesome-cheerleader) Please. If you are having a hard time doing what you are.... say something. Someone is surely to respond, usually with somehepful advice since they have experienced that for themselves.

Welcome to BOTT. We want you here. We like it too, believei it or not. Soooooo.......
