Rockstar energy drinks

Someone at my game over the weekend was chugging away at a large energy drink, and I read on the can that it said sugar free. I could smell it from the few feet away, it smelt sort of grape-y.  I decided since I knew I'd be exhausted today, I'd give it a try and see how it was.

It is very fizzy, but not as much as a can of soda. It tastes like what would happen if Robatussin and grape soda had a baby (not really appealing to say the least), but I must say, I do feel the pep. Here are the stats.

Servings per can - 2 (but I drank the whole can)
Serving size - 8 oz

Calories - 10
Carbs - 0
Sugar - 0

Vitamins
B2 - 3.4 mg (200%)
B 3 - 20 mg (100%)
B5 - 10 mg (100%)
B6 - 2 mg (100%)
B12 - 6 mg (100%)
Sodium 125 mg (5%)

Herbal Additives
Taurine - 1000 mg
Ginkgo Biloba - 150 mg
Caffeine - 80 mg
Guarana - 25 mg
Inositol - 25 mg
L-Carnitine - 25 mg
Panax Ginseng - 25 mg
Milk Thistle - 20 mg

Now I was impressed by these stats for many reasons. The B Complex factor was very appealing for us RNY'ers who need to suppliment that (not sure if any other surgeries do?). Also, there are many herbal additives that can be found in the "natural weight loss blends" that are out there. Namely Taurine (energy booster), Ginko Biloba (anti-oxidents and memory booster), Caffeine (duh), Guarana (full of caffeine and anti-oxidents) and Ginseng (helps resist stress, treats type-II diabetes). Milk thistle is popular for body cleansing purposes. L-Carnitine assists in boosting metabolism. Inositol is great for breaking down cholesterol and balancing insulin.

I was completely surprised and rather pleased with the herbal additives, to say the least. So while it tastes like cough medicine (and not the good kind) and is kinda fizzy, requiring me to drink it slowly.... I may add one here and there into my diet for its health benefits!

Has anyone else tried these? I've also had those all-herbal 5 hour energy shots (they rawk), and there are other energy drinks out there that are more natural and not just "JOLT"-like. I'm interested in what you all do for energy boosting and if any of you take herbal suppliments.

Haven't tried it - in fact, I've never heard of it.  I'm not at all sure I'm ready for that much "healthy"  LOL

I take a B-12 sublingual every day and if I'm really tired I take a second one.  That handles my energy (not a kick - just a nice steady mmmmmmmmmmm)  I have found that if I'm exhausted tired it means I'm neat eating enough calories.  "But then I don't think scampering around in the mud is fun LOL so this may not be sufficient for you.

Did you hear about the house?

Its one of those "cool younger generation energy drinks" like Red Bull, Monster, and other pep drinks. I was never really into them, even pre-surgery. But I was so impressed by the dietary value in this one that I think I'm in love!

I really should take B12 more often. I have the bottle sitting right at my desk at work but I never really take it. Its good for an energy buzz? not the pep, but a steade mmmmm as you say. I wonder if I started taking it daily if I'd notice the difference....

Not as of yet.... not as of yet.

Hmmm...I was a red bull fan pre wls - have had a few since, sugar free for energy boosts.  But I woudl much prefer a healthy version - shame about the taste.  I'll have to google them and see if I can get them over here.

The ingresdients look good though.

How was your weekend - fun?

I definately had a blast this weekend, thanks for asking! I was busy busy the whole time, but I'm very surprised I'm not dead tired. I think it has to do with hitting the track so much my stamina is up!

Let me know if you order any!

They also sell it on Amazon.com for a reduced price, but I'm not sure yet about shipping to the UK, and if it was, how much that'd be compared to off the Rockstar site.

Continuing research has found the "Zero Carb" Rockstar energy drink to be comparable in a positive way. A MUCH more appealing "berry" sort of flavor and a few different herbal additives...

Removed Milk Thistle and Ginkgo Biloba and added Green Tea (energy and anti-oxident) and Yerba Mate (caffeine, anti-oxident and lowers cholesterol). Still only 10 calories, no carbs or sugar, and even a little less sodium (110).

Onward and upward, I was checking out at the supermarket, and on top of the little fridge where the Rockstar drinks were, were Rockstar Energy Shots. Looking much like the 5 hour energy shots and whatnot. I decided to grab on just because. Looking at the suppliment information, I was completely wowed.

Calories - 10
Carbs - 0
Sugar - 0

Vites
B3 40mg (200%)
B5 20mg (200%)
B6 20mg (1000%)
B12 60mg (1000%)
Sodium 35mg (1%)

It has the same herbal additives as the Sugar Free version, except 200mg of caffeine instead of 50. Most of the other herbs are also doubled. In BIG RED LETTERS it reads "CAUTION: POWERFUL" which made me giggle a little. It also warns you not to consume more than 2 shots a day. It says its a Tropical Fruit Punch flavor. I have a feeling it'll be overly sweet, like the 5 hour energy shots. We'll see. I'll try that on tomorrow.
