Back On Track Together
2 yrs out and 28 lbs regained...HELP
Hi all.
My name is Tavia and I had RNY Nov. 2007. I found this board and have been too ashamed to admit that I have begun to gain the weight back. For the last 5 months I have been trying to get pregnant and taking fertility meds. The only thing that this has done for me is depress me because I can't get pregnant and I start to rely on my "ol best friend, FOOD". Now that I am at a point that I don't think I will ever have children, I want to get my weight loss and life back on track. I would like to lose the extra 28 lbs but also lose an additional 10 for a total of 38 lbs to lose. Any help or advice would be welcomed and greatly appreciated. What can I do to get back on track and get back to a healthy weight to maintain? Thanks to all.

You came to the right place! We are all in the same boat here. I've regained 15-20 give or take, and am in my first week of getting back on track.
I did 3 days of liquids. The third day was actually the hardest, I used protien shakes and broth. It was really hard but I got through it.
I'm tracking my intake on fitday.com (there are many others to choose from). I've found it really helps me get all my protein in and it keeps me on track.
I also made a list of thinks I like about being thin. Things such as not having my knees touch when I walk. I made the list as long as I could. I read it many times over the first three days.
I feel better mentally and physically no so bloated. Everyone here is very supportive, you can ask anything. Good luck!!!

Awww.. Don't give up Tavia. It's only been 5 months. Fertility is something I am scared of after I lost my daughter and I understand all about food being my best friend! I gained a few lbs after having surgery and I am in the same boat with you. I tried to start the 5 day pouch test last week but ended up on medication for a UTI so I am starting over today (Monday at midnight- right now). You can do it!
Hi Tavia -
I'm new to this group too, and can really identify with how you are feeling. I am 3 years out, and have regained 25 pounds. I definitely feel like I have fallen into my old pattern of emotional eating, then gain weight, then can't fit in clothing, then feel fat and bad about myself - and an almost panic reaction that I'm going to gain all the wieight back - which leads me to eat more. Anyway, I've joined this group to get support from people in the same situation, and hopefully it will be helpful to all of us. I guess I'm not offering any suggestions - just know that you are not alone.

Tavla - I'm so glad you've chosen to post and allow us to share your journey. We've all been there and done that or we wouldn't be here!
You certainly have NOTHING to be ashamed of. Please forgive yourself for being human. Humans aren't perfect, we make mistakes - and, thankfully, we can learn from them. Please don't expect that, because of your surgery you will never eat anything you shouldn't or that you'll never eat more than you should. That isn't realistic. It's not the day you get off track that's important, it's the next day. Now, do you go back to your old ways of thinking, or do you pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again?
At about 2 years out I regained 30-35 pounds. I'd like to say, I got right back on track. BUT, I didn't stay on track once I got back on until I found this site. I can honestly say I would not have been able to get back/stay on track without their caring, support, understanding, and acceptance. I hope you find this site as helpful as I have. I would also like to say that since I found these folks I have never again gotten off track - that just wouldn't be the truth, but the truth is that it's never been more than 3 days off track and usually only one. We call it BOTT POWER. It's realy and it's there for each and every one us to call on when we need it.
Don't be shy and, for goodness sakes, don't ever feel as though you need to be ashamed. Please let us know how we can be helpful. If you are comfortable, post often and allow us to share your journey.
Again, WELCOME

Hi, Tavia:
Nothing to be ashamed of! Food, for many of us, has always been a comfort, and during times of stress, it sure seems to call our names, doesn't it? Like you, I have gained back some weight after a very rough year, but with the help and support of the people on this Board and a new determination on my part, I am getting back in control of things with the goal of hitting to my lowest weight again and maintaining.
Hang in there, and remember to take time for yourself to do what you need to do to get back on track: Exercise, track your food, get your fluids in and don't forget your supplements.
We are all here to help! :)
