Just checking in...

Hello... just checking in to say Hi to my friends in this group. I'm still working on insurance approval to see another bariatric surgeon. My intial request has come back "DENIED" to go out of network but yet all the in network doctors will not see someone that has already had RNY surgery. Lots of hoops to jump through but I have to keep the faith that I will get to a surgeon that cares!!!

I've had a terrible cold this past week and eating was not al all on my mind. I kept the fluids going in but still no weight loss!!! Granted I did not have the strength to go to my exercise or swim classes this week but wouldn't you think at least a pound would come off. What can I say... still no successes with any weight loss.

I'm posting in the Forums ... Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forum.... getting lots of great advice there in filing my appeal letter etc.  My surgery just was not normal from day one and I want to get to the bottom of what's wrong once and for all.   I'll keep in touch with all my friends here.
Hugs,
Kathy

I wish you well in your quest   (guess it kind of depends on what those fluids were and how many calories you consumed.)

Thanks... my fluids were hot decaf tea with a splash of lemon juice and water... my daily caloric intake as way lower than normal and there was no protien intake for a week to speak of... staying hydrated was my goal. Glad that bout of a cold/flu is behind me :-).

Hi Kathy,

Keep at it, there are loop holes out there in insirance companies... and sometimes you get hooked up with the right agent who will help you find them. There is a way out there for you to get what you need, you just have to keep at it.

What sort of revision are you looking into? I was peering at the stomaphyx not long ago and thought it sounded like a virtually painless, outpatient, 'cheaper' revision surgery that could work.

I wish you luck in your hunt, keep at it!

At this point I am trying to secure an appointment at the Cleveland CLinic. I have no restriction what so ever with my RNY surgery from the very start and my weight loss stalled after the first six months after the surgery. I am trying to get some testing done to see if my "gut feeling" that something was wrong with my surgery from day one is really true. My actual RNY surgery took 58 minutes to complete and left the right side of my abdomine with a divet in it... unlike anyone in my bariatric support group... and my procedure was done laproscopically. I just want another surgeon to evaluate my pouch/roux limb and my stats of weight loss complete with dietary and exercise journaling and see if they can offer any answers as to why my weight keeps going up and I can't lose any weight.  I feel as though I wasted two years with my origional surgeon and was totally upset with him when he said "he does not make mistakes"...  and dismissed my concerns.

The stats on the Stomaphyx and the Rose Procedure really are not all that great. Not sure which way I'd go if I had to have my surgery redone. i'll leave that suggestion to the experts at Cleveland Clinic to suggest... then my homework will begin.

Thanks for the pep talk about the insurance companies. They can be a royal pain ...but yet a force to be reckoned with.  I hope I can get on the bariatric road to health...but at this point fear it's not going to be an easy one. I'll keep everyone posted.
Thanks,
Kathy

HI Kathy

thanks for checking in - it's good to know what's going on with you.  Sorry things havent' got sorted yet for you, but I'm a firm believing in things happening at the right time - you will find the right surgeon and get the insurance approval through at the right time, even though right now it might not feel like that.

Keep plugging away at it, glad to hear you are getting arvice from the revision forum.  I was on there for a while when I was looking at revision (cant' afford it :o( and no insurance), and they are a great bunch, with lots of helpful advice.

hugs, hope you feel better soon (I always want to eat eat eat when I'm feeling sick!!!)

Hi Ruth,
Thanks for your continue support. I was hoping to find a baratric surgeon closer to home to help me figure out my situation after my RNY surgery.  If I can secure an appointment with Dr. Schauer at the CLeveland CLinic I'm looking at a 3.5 hour drive one way to go to see him. (NY to Ohio)... Soon the old winter winds and storms will be hitting our roadways and that makes driving very hectic to say the least. I hope I can get my insurance appeal over turned and get an appointment at their clinic soon.

The revision forum is very helpful indeed. As for eating... I can count every thing I eat and my weight continues to climb... I've seen 255 ... and exercise three times a week at the YMCA and I'm even taking swimming lessons on my off days. Counting protien, carbs and calories and staying within normal limits and still the pounds creep on.  Something is a rye but I just need to find a surgeon that can tell me what the problem is??? Is it absorbtion... the size of my pouch, the transit time or what???

Frustration is getting the best of me. I've even thought... did I even have the RNY procedure done... or did they have a card game the 58 minutes that they claim it took to do my operation??? Hopefully answers will come sometime soon.

Thanks for your continues support :-).

Kathy

Kathy - Looks like your water is way lower than the minimum 60 oz/day, your protein is way lower than the minimum 60g/day and you are eating too few calories - if we don't eat enough our body thinks it is going to starve and so it goes in self-preservation mode and holds on to everything it can get.  I may very well be missing something important you've said - but just from a quixw perusal, seems to me there's very good reasons you're not losing.  Good luck in solving this puzzle.

Battling the flu/cold did make my stats way off track for the week. I focused on hydration and did get in excess of 64 oz of water , plus my decaff hot tea with lemon drinks. Getting in protien I did not do so good at for the week. You're so right...starvation mode I'm sure did kick in for the week. But not to worry... I'm back to my three 300 calorie meals per day, with three 100 calorie snacks per day, counting fat, carbs and calories as instructed by my NUT. With the full 64 oz of water ...plus other beverages per day.  Thanks for your continued support.
Hugs,
Kathy
