Back On Track Together

Newbie to BOT

Hi all, and thanks Cathy for letting me join the BOT club!  I wanted to take a minute (I have been putting this off for weeks) and just say hi! to everyone!

My name is Kim and my RNY was May 22, 2007.  My top weight was 260 ish, my lowest weight after surgery was 141, early in 2008 and again in 2009.

My weight today is 159.2.   Geez that is hard to type.  Not because it is such a terrible number but because it is a number in the wrong direction, and because it is a symbol of the behavior that I have been engaging in for the last 5 months, which has clearly been pointing me in the wrong direction...

I know I need to focus on positives and on success if I am going to get back on track.  I know that, but man, I feel like such a failure.  I'm so far away from the *right* way to do things that it feels untenable.  I hate that.  Even my cosmetically perfected tummy is getting chubby.

I have taken 2 steps in the right direction:  I made an appt to see my bariatric surgeon (well, he died, but I'm seeing his replacement...)  and I signed up here for this group.

Can anyone tell me a good "next step?"   I was thinking maybe throwing out the BAG of snickers and skittles that is sitting next to me on my desk might be a good start... (I brought them in last week for a party for the patients I work with... and somehow the leftovers ended up in my office... isn't that just strange how that happens???)  and why is it so hard to throw them out?  God I hate it that I have slipped so much.

Please help me get BOT.
smiles,
Kim

Hi Kim,
It seems that you've already taken the next step!  "I know I need to focus on positives and on success if I am going to get back on track."  I know how you feel, because I started in the 255lb area and my lowest was 168, and that was this past March. Looking back at pictures I can see how thin I was, and how full my face is now.

Recognizing the problem and seeking a solution as you have done has already taken you in the direction of getting back on track.  I went back and saw my nutritionist to get my eating and nutrients back together.  I'm finding that what works for one person does not always work for someone else.

Going "Back to Basics" and "Getting Back on Track" is never easy, but taking the steps and making the effort brings positive results.   Remember to journal, count your food intake, and exercise.
Hope to see more of you here on the board.

Kim...

We have all been there.  This is the forum to come to!!  These BOTTers are amazing!  What most of us have done is get back to basics - start out all liquid if you have to.  I used a plan called the 5 day pouch test - it got me kickstarted back on track, and these wonderful, funny people on this site are keeping me there!  i'm down 14 pounds in 38 days - not too shabby (considering i like to drink beer in large, stupid amounts :))

I have gone as completely carb-free as i can.  no bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, corn, sugar...i never was a huge sugar eater anyway - my downfall is BREAD.  i do miss my blueberry bagels in the morning!!

my goals for each day are simple - over 100 g Protein, under 100 g Carbs and under 75g fat.  I slip on the fat and the protein every now and then, but i have not let bread cross my lips in 5 weeks - for me, that is HUGE!!

you know what the protocol is - as do i and everyone else on here.  we have all gotten away from the protocol at one point or another.  just know that you CAN get back on track, and this is the place to do it...

Welcome!!

Please realize you are already on the right track.... 5 months of eating... and you are reaching out for help ..... That is great.... I mean it took me 5 years or so to reach out for help......... I am so happy you recognize this problem now and are facing it.... I am proud of you.... I know you feel like a failure but YOU ARE NOT... DO NOT BELIEVE THE LIES.... YOU ARE A SUCCESS STORY........I agree with bott members... YOU CAN DO THIS...... Just give the candy away..... start fresh..... I was keeping bags of candy just for me to eat when I was stressed....... now I have changed the way I handle stress... You can too........ Hi and Welcome to BOTT, Kim.

Let me start by saying, you've already done the hardest part! That'd be admitting it to yourself what the problems are and understanding what needs to be adjusted so that you can fix them.

Focusing on the positives is very important, but we must at least acknowledge the negetives so that we can work on them. Once we can accept it, we can change it. Completely ignoring it will do nothing to help the situation. You can do this, you know how and we are all here to help you as much as we can!

Throw out the BAGS!  Empower yourself! Why can't you bring yourself to do it? Is it the cost? What does a bag of skittles cost anyways, $3? Maybe $5? Is your health and BOTTing worth that much to you? If you can't bring yourself to waste them, leave them in a common area at work and post a stickie not beside it saying "Free to anyone except Kim"... that way you can't even tempt yourself.

You're on the right track to BOTT. Now you need to really sit down and reassess where you are and where you want to be. What should be your eating goals? Do you count calories? Do you plan meals days ahead? Do you exercise? Make a list of short term goals and long term goals. Its important to have short term goals so you are constantly crossing things off the list. let me give you an example.

Short Term -
Eat less than 1200 calories in one day
Say no to a sweet
Get in 64 oz of water in a day
Walk a mile
Have a whole day without a "woops"
Listen to my body when my head says its hungry

Long term -
Lose 5 lbs
Lose 10 lbs
Walk 3 miles in one shot
Lose a pants size (and buy new pants to celebrate!)
Be able to do 100 sit-ups in one shot

As you see, we use the short term goals to get us to the long term goals. Its a happy circle. And once you cross something off one list, add something else. Then you always have something solid to aim for.

Looking forward to hearing from you again!
