Back On Track Together
Thursday - BOTT Cario and Cafe
Good Morning BOTT family -
Have a busy day ahead with CPR training all afternoon so thought I'd begin this thread for us today. What a "head" event this maintenance thing is proving to be. I definiately have a whole different perception of being in my above-goal-weight cushion zone (head tells me this is BAD) and my below-goal-weight cushion zone (head tells me this is GOOD). I guess I have another cushion zone and the is head comfort cushion zone which most likely is ANYTHING below goal weight. Am struggling with that. Right now, my goal is to not allow myself to go below 1500 calories/day at least until October 1 and see how my weight does. That's a scary thought as my fear is I will get out of hand. Now I ask you, realistically, how much weight am I going to gain in six days when I'm eating 1500 calories? I know I should give it a month - and I may - but for now six days seems daunting. Thanks for listening Going to be leaning on BOTT POWER big time!!!!

Health Wise choc drink - 80 cal
S- HW choc drink - 80 cal

Have a fine day and here's to BOTT POWER

Morning Happy, and BOTTers!
Wowwww its hot today, 80* and humid as all get out. Ick. Indian Summer as they call it here. I wonder if I'll get out to the track, only because its so hot and I'll get my work clothes all sweaty. But I did work my butt off at the gym this morning. I'm going to aim to get SOME kind of exercise done today outside the gym.
Happy, I learned something yesterday in looking into how to lose weight/maintain weight. 1 lb = 3500 calories. In or out, so that's to gain, you must eat 3500 calories more than you burn, to lose, you must burn 3500 calories more than you eat. It sounds daunting, but gaining is harder than losing, believe it or not! We're always always burning calories in every day life. Sitting at my desk all day burns 800 calories in and of itself, doing nothing else but sitting. So don't feel too bad.
I did learn one more thing. To maintain, we must eat roughly 15 calories per pound we weigh. So, I'll use me as an example. I weigh 171 now. Multiply that by 15 calories, and I must eat 2565 calories a day just to maintain my current weight. If I deficit my intake by 1000 calories a day (So I only eat 1565, which is doable) I'd burn off a pound in 3.5 days on diet ALONE. Add exercise, and you get the picture. I hope these facts help ease your brain!
Cardio - hit the gym this morning, feel great! Hope to hit the track if I don't sweat like a pig
Food -
B - 2 eggs, wedge of LC cheese, nuked
S - Coffee, WW string cheese
L - 1 5oz can tuna (made into tuna salad) 4 wheat thins flat breads (have extra wheat thins if needed)
S - Jell-o pudding snack pack, some left over cube steak if needed
D - Cheese burger, no bun, maybe topped with left over spare ribs

36 lbs from goal!
That's interesting - @15 calories a pound to maintain it is significantly more that I'm eating - even to maintain at the bottom of my below-goal-weight cushion zone (which, as it turns out is my head's comfort zone) Could it be that strange land of needing to eat MORE calories I wonder? Will see what happens the next six days and re-evaluate then.
Thanks for sharing this. What would I do without you??? Thank goodnes, I don't have to do without you!!!!!!!!

I'll bet you it really IS about eating more calories. If your body doesn't take in enough calories to maintain its weight, or lose in a healthy fashion (which is a deficit of roughly 1000 calories, so I read) it will go into almost a complete metabolism shut-down and stop burning. You'll be exhausted, weak, and probably lack an appetite, even though you are literally starving yourself.
I was thinking of you last night, when I learned this. I was saying "GOSH, how in the world was Happy going day by day only eating 500-800 calories a day!"... I literally couldn't fathom what you were eating in a day! (or not eating, I should say) You've come so far, Happy and I'm so proud of you!

36 lbs from goal!
I have noticed being tired a lot recently - I just charged it off to not being able to exercise - and I'm sure that's part of it, but it may be a calorie thing too. But, good grief, I feel like I'm stuffing myself now - not sure how it would be to eat MORE calories. Inreiging (sp?) thought though. Will give strong consideration to increasing my calories to the 15/pound to my comfort cushion weight and see what happens. Thanks for caring
Totally messed up the day. My grandson came over yesterday to spend a few days. He went to the doctor this morning and has H1N1 flu virus. yipee. His parents are out of the state so he can't go back home. We are supposed to go to a birthday party Saturday afternoon/evening. We've been exposed now so the docor says we should all stay home in order to not spread it. He looks like he has a cold or allergies. Frustration sent me to the kitchen. It's always something.
Hello BOTT Family,
Nothing spectacular or exciting happening in my life, at least not yet. I've had the sniffles and some slight throat irritation for the past couple of days...don't know where that's coming from. If I am trying to come down with a cold or something it will be the first cold or flu since I had my surgery in January 2007. I've even been experiencing some nausea; I think I've been waiting too long to eat because as soon as I put something on my stomach the nausea went away.
I have been back on track and have not had a fling or rendezvous with Mike & Ike for about a week or more.

You're right - there's always something - So we have to run on thinking - not on feeling. You can do it - we all have to have a "refresher course" in eating-by-thinking instead of our old way of eating-by-feeling. Eating-by-feeling is what we needed bariatric surgery in the first place. Hope your grandson is doing well and none of the rest of you come down with it.
