Back On Track Together
Been off track for awhile but need advice
I had my gastic bypass surgery August 2004. I went from 240 to 140 the first year, and made it to 120 by the end of year two. I am 5'5" tall and had been staying on trac****il I hit the big 4-0.
The year I turned 40, I had thyroid surgery and a hysterectomy. Now I am hovering between 140 & 145. Long story short...I have been doing everything in my power to get back to at least 125 or 130, but I have been struggling.
I am open to any advice on how I can get back to my goal weight.
Please help.

Alicia - First of all, let me say WELCOME I'm so glad you've chosen to join us
I am assuming when you say you've been doing everything in your power to get back to 125 you mean you have been 100% compliant with food and exercise guidelines.
What helps a lot of us to go back to guidelines for this group that Cathy has posted at the beginning of our discussion page. It is so easy after a while, to forget, ignore, mutiny against some of the things that got us to goal in the first place. I found I needed to print it off and really read (= pay attention) to what it said.
I need to WRITE down what I eat - otherwise I tend to underestimate how many calories I'm eating. It also helps me to go on the clear liquid - full liquid - pureeed food refeeding schedule I had after my surgery 3 1/2 yrs. ago.
Having said all of this, I know that I could never have gotten back/stayed on track with out the caring support, understanding, and acceptance I've found here. These are undoubtedly the most postive and supportive folks I've found anywhere. I call them my angels in disguise as humans.
If you are comfortable, please post often and allow us to share your journey. WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER
Again, a great big WELCOME to you.

Thanks for your reply. I guess in reality...I have not done everything to be compliant. I got some protein powder to start doing the protein drinks for the next couple of days. I am also trying to stay away from carbs. I think that is my biggest weakness. I tend to graze at work. That said...I really don't eat that much food, and it is the same as what I was eating two years ago.
I guess after you hit the 4-5 year out mark you have to go back to basics.
I appreciate the support. I am sure that being accountable will help me get back on track.
Thanks!

Back to basics is absolutely right. I went on the 5 day pouch test (www.5daypouchtest.com) and it kickstarted me back into compliance. i'm down 7 pounds in 2 weeks.
No bread/pasta/rice/potatoes/corn. Protein above 100g, carbs below 100g, fat below 75g. It really helps to use a food tracker and a scale in the kitchen. My DH is also thrilled with how the diet change has helped him too...no bloating, gas, acid or constipation! Until I get my weight back down to where it was post surgery I am not touching anything with wheat or sugar in it...it's working for me!
I hate protein powder too...but it does blend in well with sugar free puddings!
Good luck and keep in touch...we all support one another here!
