How to get back on mental track

I've fallen off the wagon - wondering how you have gotten back on track mentally - I know what I need to do - just can't seem to get started. Have started on anti-depressents - maybe I need to get them better fine tuned. I have gotten everything ready to start back on track, just can't find the motivation.   :(

Viqueenfan,

To get back your motivation, think about why you first had the surgery. What were the reasons for it? I did that and have finally decided to get back on track. Also, I'm not happy where I am with my weight and my body in general. It is affecting my mental health and I REFUSE to let that happen. I'm starting to live this mantra when it comes to my WLS, "It's all about me."

Keep on coming here. This is an awesome support group and great at helping people stay motivated and on track.

Welcome   Here's a few suggestions;  Read Cathy's guidelines (select from top of the discussion page)  Not just read - but read and think (why does that seem to come so hard at times LOL)

Don't beat yourself up because you got off track - but celebrate that you are getting back on track today Take it 5 minutes at a time - even we can resist temtation for 5 minutes and at the end of each 5 minutes celebrate your success (in a non-food way, of course - like a giant pat on the back!!!)  Then begin the next 5 minutes.  We all have been where you are (or we wouldn't be in the BOTT group) so we know that 5 minutes on one day may require more dedication to getting back on track than 24 hours on another day.

Be as kind and gentle, firm but kind and gentle - with yourself as you would be with your best friend.  You would do whatever you had to do to stop your friend from running out into the street in front of an oncoming car - you wouldn't ask (or even care) if she wanted to stop, if she would be comfortable stopping, or if she would rather you let her go today and waited until tomorrow to stop her - you'd do whatever it took to stop her and to keep her stopped   Please respect yourself as much.

I can promise you that no matter how hungry you have convinced yourself you are - you will not starve in 5 minutes AND you will not develop amnesia - if you DECIDE to eat during or after 5 minutes you WILL remember how

I believe you can and will put together a whole BOTT day - Now, won't you please join me in believing in you

If you're comfortable, please post often so we may share your journey.

It really can't be said any better than Happy put it... Welcome to the Wagon, it'll be a wild ride, but one you'll be grateful for in the end. You are not alone, there are lots of us here on, off, crawling back on, and grasping at straws to stay seated.... trust me. (wow, I ran away with that metaphore, didn't I? )

Great advice all 'round on here!

One other thing that helps:  Support.  Whether it is on here, or through a local support group -- it can really make a difference!  :)
