Hello everyone-
I've been a member since last month but haven't posted. Not even sure where to begin. I won't bore you with all the details but I really could use some advice on how to get back on track. I had surgery in Feb of 2006- lost about 110 pounds but never really made it to my goal weight. Got to 175 and actually felt good and comfortable (I;m not petit) at that weight. My goal weight was 145. At 18 months out I got pregnant. We had terrible fertility issues prior to my weightloss so it was a nice and welcome surprise. I had a healthy pregnancy and baby boy last June. I gained 40 pounds during the pregnancy and took 20 off. Right now I am still up 20 pounds and feel so horrible about myself. I've learned that it doesn't matter what the numbers are with me- if I'm not where I want to be I feel so rotten about myself. I am totally sabotaging myself now. I feel like theres no digging back out and getting back on track. I eat anything that isn;\'t nailed down! nothing bothers me! I don't even feel like I have a puch anymore. I should also mention that I had emergency surgery in December- I had a perforated ulcer from a medication that burned a hole through my pouch. Since then I've been really depressed. Any ideas on the best way to get back on track? I see the 5 day puch test but is that the way to go? any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

First of all, plant this truth FIRMLY in you mind. Scales cannot measure worth, they can only measure weight. Our problems are about0.01% "tummy" and 99.99% thinking - so, work with your rotten thinking and your rotten eating will take care of itself. Now, make no mistake, working with your thinking takes time and effort - but you'll find every bit of it is worthwhile. Also, we've all been here and done that when it comes to weight gain, so don't be shy let us know how we can be helpfuL Please, forgive yourself for being human. Humans aren't perfect. Humans make mistakes Humans can change.
A good way to start is to read (not just look at, but really read and take to heart) Cathy's guidelines. There are so many little things that may have slipped our mind over the years. Then begin - take it 5 minutes at a time - even we can resist temptation for 5 minutes LOL. Celebrate in a non-food way at the end of each 5 minutes.
Keep in mind that that precious son of yours, wants his mommy to be all she can be so she will enjoy playing with him. In the end, we must do this for ourselves, but sometimes "doing it" for someone else can give us a little extra push in the right direction in the beginning.
Remember how thrilled you were when you learned you would be able to have the surgery Go back to that. Go back to the refeeding schedule you had after surgery - 2 weeks on clear liquids, 2 weeks on full liquids, and two weeks on pureed foods. That signals your body and your thinking that you are serious about getting back on track. Kind of wakes up your systems and sets you on your way.
Most of all, know that WE CAN DO (AND ARE DOING) THIS TOGETHER!!! If you're comfortable, please post often and share your successes and challenges with us. (I know this will come as a real news flash - but none of us are perfect either LOL )
Have a fine BOTT day

Kara,
I seldom post on the boards but your post hit home with me. I have been struggling with myself this summer. I am always going to do the 5 day pouch test but never make it past a half of a day.
The good thing is your post motivated me to get moving. I just got off the treadmill for 60 min and I am going to try to do what the other poster said go back to the beginning. I don't have a baby but I have my grandkids here all the time and It's much easier to grab a snack then do what I should be doing. I have two friends in my support group that have either had a baby recently or are pregnant and they also had fertility issues prior to surgery.
Good Luck and hope to see you post! I'm going to keep this board pulled up so I think about what I'm doing everytime I look at my computer!!
You can do it!

Thanks Happylapbander and Melissa for taking time out of your day to offer support! I have always been so hard on myself- I'm my own worst critic. I am definitely going to start back at square one and get back on track if for no other reason--to feel better both emotionally and physically. I will be back to post- I'm sure it will be so helpful to know there are others dealing with the same things I am dealing with. Have a great night.
Welcome, ladies!!!
I think you'll find that this board is really supportive of each other. We don't believe in beating ourselves or others up. Everyone makes mistakes if not, we wouldn't have anything to learn.
HappyLap told me about a book called "The Beck Diet Solution". It is good at helping us change our way of thinking so as not to beat ourselves up and continually stay off track. Also, she has a good suggestion of going back to the post-surery diet. I wasn't strong enough to do that so I went to my dietician and then my PA to get an eating plan (I REFUSE to call it a diet, since it will be my way of life). The main things to remember is protein, water, exercise and vitamins.
There are a lot of us who use online food journals to track our food so we know where we stand each day. I prefer thedailyplate from livestrong.com because I can actually change the servings and build meals I eat regularly. Also, the exercise database is pretty extensive. Another thing we do is "Cafe and Cardio" a daily post by Cathy so we are accountable to someone other than ourselves.
Please let us know how you're doing on this journey. We are here to help even if it is just reading a frustration post.
