Back On Track Together

"Wnna Be's"

Yesterday after I posted a response to the two great ice cream recipes I got to thinking.  Somehow I knew just by reading that those foods would likely set me off into the urger to eat more and more and more.  But, later I realized that a very high percentage of the foods I thrive on and that keep me on track are also "wanna be's".  OK, now I just need to figure out the difference.

That wasn't hard at all for I KNOW our problem is always our thinking! (Duh )  Foods that trigger me to want to eat are foods that were my comfort foods before.  The "good" foods I think of as my healthy friends, foods that keep me on track, foods that if I eat them I can know that, whatever my weight the next day(s), I have done it right.  The "bad" foods (only bad for me), regardless of how well they fit within the bariatric guidelines, are the ones I eat because my thinking is mucked up.  They really don't appeal to me (fear not, there are a LOT of foods that do appeal to me!) when I'm thinking straight.  And after I eat these bad foods, I sure don't weigh the next day - I'm likely deep into a pig out and NO WAY will I weight until I start to get back on track.again   I eat those foods when my thinking is "How much can I eat and not gain" rather than "What do I need to eat to be healthy, happy and compliant."

So there you have it folks.  Just wanted to share my new insignt into me.  May or may not apply to anyone else - but I'm guess it might.

Thanks for listening

Hi Happy,

Yes ...I can relate to this -  For example ...before wls i loved ice cream, well guess what? When Eggface first came out with her ice cream recipes..... i ate the ice cream every single day - not once, not twice , but three times a day. If I like a food , i want more of it.  So this can never happen again. I am not going to let it. I just make my protein shake in a blender and maybe put it in the freezer for my ice cream. Another example -- protein bars or any kind of sweetener (sugar alcohol foods) - I tend to go over board with these foods. I use to eat 3 bars a day. plus my foods. NOT GOOD! Protein bars are candy bars in disguise! To me , they are really not all that healthy. They are trigger foods for me.  ....I need to stay away from these kind of foods. Once I start eating them, I will gain weight. I know me , and I can not do moderation, either. THAT is my down fault. So , like you , these foods would likely set me off into eating more, gain weight and not think straight, then i will start to get depressed.. :-(

What keeps me on track - like what you said Happy - are my healthy foods - When I workout every morning , i can think better and clear ... when i workout - i can see the results in the mirror -that makes me want to eat healthier and drink my water. When I drink my water and eat healthier - I'm in a better mood.  You are absolutely right ,Happy! Thanks for your post

Lizzy - you know I believe it all boils down to KNOW THYSELF  It's just when we try to run and hide from ourselves that we get into trouble.  I feel so good when I have a new insight - gives me a sense of control.  There REALLY is something I can do to maintain my goal weight - never again will I HAVE to gain it all back.  That brings me such joy (when I am thinking straight)  I'm so glad you've joined our group - you give us all inspiration.
