Extended release meds

Hi there,
I had my appt. for depression meds today and we are trying the latest one because nothing seems to be helping. It's called Pristiq. Anyone heard anything or know anyone on it?

Sometimes I think I need to find a new Dr. cuz we can't seem to get me figured out. AND I specifically mentioned that I wonder about the meds working since my RNY. She said this and Cymbalta weren't extended release but it says right on the sample packet info she gave me that Pritiq is. I am thinking that doesn't work with our new anatomy. Am i right about that?

Anyway I will start it tomm. and suppose to call in a couple weeks to see how I am doing. I am fearful this one won't help either and then what! So frustrated that meds just seem to quit working for me. Been fighting this battle for 20 years. Depression, anxiety etc. Done counceling, meds etc etc. Sometimes wonder about shock therapy. Think it has made a comeback in recent years. When I mentioned this she said causes too much memory loss.

Anyway just had to vent about this and see if you all have any information or insights. Food was a little better today and I did an hour on the elliptical. Been waking in the night wanting to eat and someone mentioned that may be low blood sugars. So just had a bit of pb2 and flax meal just now. Will see if that helps tonight.

Glad this apt. today is over and will maybe see some improvement. Lots of things in my life I need to "take action" on and will feel better. The drain of a huge "to do" list is not good for a person's psyche. But when you just feel blah... there is no motivation to get anything done.
My I am rambling so will stop now - thanks for being here. LO

I don't know how this works with psychotropics, but does she realize you only absorb approximately 60% of what you take in?

Have you tried Lamictal?  Not sure of the spelling, but google will fix it for you if you search for it with depression.  It's mostly for bipolar because it doesn't aggrivate the manic part.  I am not bipolar, but it has worked great for me.  I take 150 mg and 100 mg of zoloft and I usually don't feel like killing people.   Lamictal can go up in dose also.

I took zoloft for a few years and recently added the other one and it worked awesome.  You start though with a little and work up to avoid an auto-ammune reaction.  I had no problems.

I would try it if I were you.

Happy 4th,
Amy

yes I also take Lamictal 100 mg daily... maybe I need more... who knows! Will see how this new med works. I tried Abilify too but I swear it packed on 10 pounds. Sure is hard to get the right med "****tail". Thanks for the reply!  Lucy
