Friday Weigh In

I was eating between 450 & 550 cals and was told I must eat a minimum of 1000, 60-70 grams of protein, and to keep sugars to no more than 16 per serving (told to ignore carbs). and, of course, exercise.  I am losing - slowly - but then I've less than 10 pounds to lose to get back to my goal weight so I would expect to lose slowly even on way fewer calories.  Also, all of my exercise was aerobic and was told to do some strengh training as well.  This is the first week since was told to do that that I'll I have time to start.  I have access to the equipment at work, but no one *****ally knows how to plan a routine for me so I am going to start with a personal trainer - once a month if the trainer is willing to work with me on a pay-by-session basis and then use the equipment at work between sessions.  I only have a morning snack as time and desire don't allow for an afternoon or evening snack.  As to being able to eat more, YOU BET I CAN.  I think I stretched my stomach for so many years it's lost its elasticity (I'm 76) so I count cals, proteins, & sugars and when I've had my pre--determined limit I stop eating regardless of how I feel for that way I know when I've had enough.

I'll look forward to your post on how the strength training sessions go with the personal trainer. My NUT has me eating the three meals with 300 calories each. Comparing that to your total stats for the day makes me think they've got me eating way to much in a day. My goals are 1200 calories, 70-80 protien, 30 fat per day, 3 carb servings per meal and the 64oz of water per day. Reading your posts I always yearn to be able to stop my eating and get down to the lower caloric intake. The days I try are when the vertigo is the worst. Something isn't working but I just havent' figure it out yet. No one ever said this would be easy...but I'm determined to keep up the battle for health :-)... and accept whatever fridays weigh in brings.

How tall are you?  I'm barely 5'  That could easily account for the difference in the calories we have been told to eat.  1000 was the absolute minimum - I think she knew I would "mutiny" and cut way back again if she set it too high.  Even now, I'm usually 25-50 calories a day below 1000.  I sometimes go up to 80 g protein - she said I probably could do that when I exercised.  Are you taking your vitamins, calcium, and B-12?  I'm assuming your blood pressure is where it should be.  What jumps out at me is the 3 carb servings a meal.  How many carbs per serving?  That might cause you to slow down losing, but, again, I think that's related to solving your vertigo problem.  Do you do any strength training as part of your exercise?  I was told that would build muscle (which burns more calories than fat) and improve my metabolism.  I'm also supposed to have my metabolic rate tested - am in the process of finding a place that does that.  I love your determination - keep me posted please.

I'm apparently not tall enough for all the pounds of me that I carry around ...smile. I started my journey with RNY at 323 lbs... and am now 231.8  ... and am 5'9" tall .  I'm 46 and fairly active. I go to the local YMCA and walk the track, do the circuit weight training and do water watking in the pool. I also try to work out on a cross trainer... elliptical, stepper/gazelle machine.  I also walk at home on my treadmill. I do some light weight exercises at home. I take four optisource vitamins a day and 2 caltrate with vitamin D.  My blood pressure has checked out fine at all my primary care and bariatric appointments.  Prior to the gastric bypass I was borderline diabetic. My A1C counts have been perfectly within normal ranges. There are 15 grams of carbs per serving... so that makes for 45 grams of carbs per meal the way my nutritionalist has set up my diet guidelines.  You've got my curiosity about having the metabolic rate tested... I've never heard of that. Time to do another google search and see what I can read up on that. I'm really thinking something has gone wrong with my surgery...because I can eat a normal meal with no problems at all. My girlfriends that have has the surgery all think either my staple line has broken or the origional bypass did not give me any restriction. I keep reading all that I can and enjoy learning here at this site from all of you as well. Gotta have the determination I've got to much invested in ME :-)!!! Gotta lose those pounds that haunt me . I'll keep you posted for sure. Thanks so much for your support .

last week 148
this week 146
next 144...

OK I guess... i am maintaining , so everything is fine. But I am planning to see what will happen if I lose the next 5 lbs.
I was concentrating on maintenance 145-150  but decided on the extra challenge... since my doc said that it shall be OK to go lower so I can have something to regain... since most of us do ...

will see... i am bones and skin with some fat 17 % so I want to see in a control environment ho would I feel with less fat... Losing 5 lbs of fat will put me at 14% fat ... if all I lose is fat...  hmmm..  borderline fat storage...

well done on the 2lbs this week.  It's hard to decide on a final goal isn't it, but it's good to hear you are taking your surgeons advice.

See you next week.

Hello BOTT,
Don't really remember what I weighed on the last post, but I'm down to 174 a lost of 3lbs if I recollect correctly (bet you haven't heard that in a long time).  I am losing inches!

Inches is what it's all about.  I'd rather see the same number on the scale but get into a smaller clothes size any day.

Well done you

Holding steady at 145!  Yeah me!!!  I am running another 5K tomarrow and I can see the change in my clothes if not on the scale.
