When counting carbs do you count the total carbs or the net carbs for your daily input.  Or does it matter?
Thanks,

Haven't a clue but I count total carbs because one of the times I tried Atkins I gained when I began counting net carbs.  Right now, my dr's nurse told me not to worry about carbs but to count surgars - nothing that had 16 or more per serving.  This may just be because she is asking me to greatly increase the calories I'm eating daily (from 450-550 to 1000)

I only count net carbs since you can't absorb non-solulable fiber, and those are also carbs. Basically how I do it is...

If I eat 20 carbs, but have had say 10 g of fiber, I only count that as 10 carbs. You get little to nothing from the fiber carbs, it is more a space saver. Drink plenty of water if you're going to up your fiber intake tho!

I count all the carbs because I have a tendancy to eat to many of those non-counting sugar alcohols.  That stuff is nothing but fake crap my body doesn't need so by counting them all I seem to eat better.  I try really hard to take in more protein than carbs in a day.  I am trying to focus less on the calories and more on the balance.  I do not count fat calories at all.
