Just went to Kathy's exercise thread and read her mention of sleep.     This jogged my memory (wonder how many calories I burned "jogging" when it was my memory????  )

There was a lot of attention given to sleep at the obesity conference I attended last week.  It seem that not only do we get the obvious benefits but there are also metabolic benefits as well.  The research how shown we need 8 hours (yep, that's 8 hours) of sleep per day.  It isn't just "important" it is VITAL if we are to function at our healthiest.

So dear friends, get those zzzzzz's!

Hi HappyLB,

Thanks for the reminder.  There is more and more research about the importance of sleep.  I know for me, it makes a huge difference.

Thanks for sharing what you picked up at the conference.

Hugs, Cathy

Usually I sleep great. Lately I've been tossing and turning.  Not sure what the deal is, I am not really changing anything. I know I'll sleep like the dead this weekend though!!

Every morning I promise myself I'll get to bed on time (8:30 as I get up at 4:30) and every night it's been 11:00 or 12:00 before I actually get into bed.  Not sure what I do - it all seems vital at the time - but I've got to do better!

I get up @ 330a the lastest 4a every single morning .... lol but can't seem to get to bed before 10p it's just not possible BUT I will try tonight... I've been really really tired so I'm assuming that has to do with lack of sleep

Many Blessings

I knew sleep was important for me - but had no idea how terribly significant it is metabolically to our bodies.  Obviously, if we're tired (and that's what I was basing my needs on) we need more sleep, but what research shows is that, regardless of how we feel, sleep is a vital component of our health.  I had no idea how important it is.

Can't answer  that one as the focus was on getting enough.  It probably depends on why you are sleeping.  Sometimes - but far from the only reason - sleep is a way of avoiding dealing with emotional issues.  But, you might want to check with your dr if you think you're sleeping too much.

Are you able to give a bit more info on this subject please?  How does it affect metabolic rate for example?  I seem to remember reading somewhere that sleep helps the growth (height) of children...

I used to sleep really well but since wls now sleep really badly and only get a few hours poor sleep at the most, let alone 8 hours.  And I am exhausted ALL the time - no wonder.

Oh my gosh I would just LOVE to sleep for 8 hours every night - especially if it helps weight loss - maybe this is the miracle solution I've been dreaming of      LOL

Thanks,
