Back On Track Together
CONFUSED AND FRUSTATED
I am new to this group and have joined for obvoius reasons. I am 4+ years post WLS. For some reason, I keep gaining weight. My lowest weight after my surgery was 145 (which we entirely too low) and that was after my ex left me (this was in April 2007). I am now at 166 and I want to be around 155. I keep gaining even though I am watching what I eat and exercising. I eat breakfast which is a mixtue of cereal and yogart, lunch which is cottage cheese and fruit and then dinner. I occasionally snack on 100 calorie popcorn in the middle of the day and have to admit that ocassionally I eat the cookie or piece of candy but have the fear of gaining weight so try to watch that. I drink plenty of water (60 to70 oz. per day) and like diet soda. My workout consists of running steps daily (up and down for a 20 minute period a day at one shot) and walking at least once a day for around 3 miles and twice if I get a chance. Any suggestions. All help is welcomed.

Hi Cheryl,
Welcome to BOTT. We're glad you're here.
How much protein are you eating daily? From the food choices you've given, there isn't much protein but mostly carb based foods. You are getting in a decent amount of carbs (healthy) but I'm wondering the ratio to your protein. Do you log your food and activity into a journal-type program such as FitDay?
Diet soda isn't great because of the chemicals and carbonation. Some post-ops drink it but it is considered by some surgeons as not a great choice.
Again, welcome to BOTT.

Secondly, sometimes a body can get used to a routine. This includes diet and exercise. Do you weight train at all? Without a good muscle base, your metabolism doesn't work optomumly. Try adding some lifting every other day in your exercise. If you don't have a gym membership or any weights at home, try using your tub of protein powder like a medicine ball. Pushups work as well. Changing up your diet habits might also help. how often do you eat? How big are the portions? Sometimes spacing a 2-3 hour meals vs. 3 square sizable meals bumps your metabolism more. Let us know how it goes!

Don't copy the URL's it gives you. Highlight the actual picture on ticker.com and copy it. Paste it on OH.

I'm not sure if it updates automagically. I don't think so, though. YOu'll have to re-add it here when you update.
