Hi everyone..an introduction

Hi everyone,
I have been a member of OH for a while now, and was very happy to find your board. O.K--I'll admit it--I've been lurking around a little bit to see how all the members act to each other. Each one seems to be so kind and understanding, and we all DO need that!
I'm an "oldie". I had my surgery 11/02/87 (open RNY).
This is how I've done
11/02/87 303 lbs.

have struggled with my addiction all through the years, finally going back to my bariatric surgeon last Oct. for the first time since a year after surgery. Back then, after a year out you were released. I finally found out where she relocated. She is now chief surgeon at her practice, but she has two new bariatric surgeons in her practice. I saw him and I was at 208, and I'm still at that point. Also had an upper GI with barium swallow.
I'll share more later (don't want to drag this out to long or I'll turn you all off before we even get acquainted!! lol
You seem to have such a caring, supportive group and I'm glad to have found this board.
Weight-loss hugs and cheers,
Marion
Welcome Marion,
Glad to see I'm not alone in my yo-yo weight loss/gain cycle. It's great that you're back to a bariatric surgeon. I look forward to reading more of your posts. It's amazing how far out you are from your surgery. How common was it to meet others doing RNY in '87? Looking forward to hearing more of your story.
Kathy
I look forward to hearing more of your story also. I have just come back to online support. Am struggling as a lot of us do. Am greatful everyone is so supportive and it seems we have some great role models to emulate. I appreciate knowing other's meal plans and exercise. It helps me be honest. My addiction has me in it's grips and I just keep plodding on hoping that switch will click inside me and I will turn back around. Want to do the 5dpt again and must get back to exercising faithfully. Quit grazing and knock off the white carbs! It all is a tall order when ones in the depths of despair.... but I truly believe we won't change until we hit a bottom that we cannot accept. I must not quite be there yet the draw of the food still beats the pain of remorse . Curious to hear what your surgeon has to say, if you have had any trouble with reactive hyperglycemia, any deficiencies etc. You have years of experience on a lot of us so much to share. Thanks for being here. Lucy

Thank you for your kind responses. I'd love to share my story, and I'll stop when I know I'm getting too long...lol.
I had my surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Phila, PA. on 11/02/87. I was 39 years old, 5'8, and 303 lbs. at the time. I, like so many others, had tried so many different diet plans too numerous to mention. I live in a very rural area, but I met a lady my age who worked at the bank in town and she cared enough to approach me and tell me about her bypass surgery. She was originally from the Phila. area and she explained where to go, who to contact, ect.
She had her surgery a year or two prior, and had lost considerable weight. Not skinny, just healthy and happy! I contacted the Dr. (Donna J. Barbot) and within 6 weeks I went in for my surgery. I DID NOT have a liquid diet in the hospital. I was told to eat very small amounts of my protein. Needless to say, I vomitted daily. I developed a staph infection in my incision and had to be re-hospitalized for 4 more weeks. When I finally recovered and got to go home I started eating crackers and cheese every 2 hrs. (the only thing I could tolerate). After 16 months I got to the point that everything I ate started coming up, so I went back to my surgeon. She did an endoscopy and said I needed an intestinal revision because my "Y" was situated too high. I was given my surgery, and at the same time had my tummy tuck. I developed a serious staph infection in my incision, and was very ill for 6 weeks. Now, in retrospect, I should never had my tummy tuck done at that time. My body was not in shape for so much drastic surgery within such a short time frame.
I entered into this surgery very blindly, but when I finally got to the point where I was more healthy, I was so thankful for this wonderful gift of my surgery. I know without it I would not be the person I am. I thank my dear Lord for the blessing of a healthy body.
A year ago I started taking proper supplements, including 2 multivitamins daily, calcirum, irron and B12 shots monthly. I learned how to eat protein first, small amounts of complex carbs, cut out all white bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, no junk, 64 oz. of water, the whole shabang!! what a difference!! I'm working my plan to the best of my ability.
I'm blessed to now have a normal iron count, and my lipid panel is great.
BUT...i still suffer from food addiction and go off the deep end once in a while. I need the support of others. My Dr. is Keith Kreitz from Lake Charles, LA. He is now the practicing bariatric surgeoon at my previous Dr.'s ooffice. He is very happy with the outcome of my surgery. I have lost 65% of my excess weight and have it off almost 22 years post surgery.
I, on th other hand do have mixed feelings. I would like to get to 170, maybe 175 lbs. I am thankful for the weight I have lost, but feel I have come short on my goal. Please, I would welcome all input. Rright now, I'm 205.
Also, I have a 37 year old son who is super morbidly obese. He is close to 600 lbs. and is going through his 6 month nutritional conseling along with his wife. He has many issues, and is a wonderful person who needs this surgery desperately. Please keep him in your prayers. I'll share more of his story later.
weight loss hugs and cheers,
Marion
