Addiction Transfer?

Lets be honest. If you had WLS of some kind, its fair to say you probably had a food addiction, or eatind disorder of some sort. Post-op... did you find yourself transferring the addiction? Was it to something constructive or destructive? Did you drink? Shop? Gamble? Train for a marathon? Find a new hobby? Fall in love with skydiving?

I've seen this comming out in myself. If a little anyways. I did start drinking as a treat about 1-2 years out and when I saw that spiraling out of control I put it to a stop.

But I've come to find a new, constructive addiction I really enjoy, and I and others can profit from. I love to sew. I got a sewing machine for Christmas and I haven't left the thing alone! Having known nothing about sewing before, I taught myself the basics from books and easy patterns and I really enjoy myself. It haunts my dreams even.

So how about you? Did you find your addiction transfer to anything?

My transferred to exercise and shopping, which I jokingly tell people is better than alcohol, gambling or sex.  My hubby would disagree on the last one. LOL

I decided I wanted to try something I'd never done before. So I signed up for a motorcycle saftey training class and got my motorcycle license in a weekend. Now to find a nice smaller bike and get some riding in this summer. Life is crazy at times but geez being a kid at heart... had to try to do something that was new to me... and wow is it fun!!!

I know I'm a little behind in responding, but I took the motorcyle safety course last weekend and I will be buying a V Star 250 later today.  Who would have thought I would be acting like a 21 year old and actually be 47!  I 'm way out of my comfort zone but figured if I did do it now it would be never.  Isn't WLS just grand?

Haha yeah.... then we wonder why our addictions couldn't have transferred to water... and vitamins... and protein.

Is it a necessary thing for all addictions to be something bad for you?... or costs alot of money? Why can't I be addicted to swinging on swings like when I was a kid!

I love counted cross stitching and needlepointing.  For a while my new addiction was walking.  Now I'm back to cross-stitching.  Then there's always my kitties (3 kind of counts as an addiction I think LOL)  So I guess you might say my "condition" is Floating Addictions.   You're sure on the right track and I admire you're sewing accomplishments!!!!!

Karen, I am right there with you!  I now have my own little coffee bar at home complete with 20 -25 SF syrups, lots of different creamers, a Margaritaville (for Frapps) and still have to stop at least once a day at a Starbucks!  I love coffee cold, hot, black, sweetened and/or with creamers.  But like you I make sure to drink at least 100 oz of water a day along with my coffee.....

All in all it is an addiction I think that I can accept.

Before surgery I was a tea totler!
