Thanks for the opportunity to join your group. Shoutjoy suggested joining everyone here. I had RNY surgery in 8/2007. I started my journey at 315 lbs and got down to 233 at my best, all happened in the first three months after surgery. I journaled my protien, water, vitamins and exercise and never was able to break that plateau. From Oct. to April I have managed to regain 7 lbs. Back to the 240 mark and not happy. I'm journaling daily and getting very frustrated. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. I will meet with the nutritionalist at my bariatric surgeon's office in May. Has anyone suffered this same problem. Love to hear from you!!!

I"m in the same boat..only I had the band.  I have been at a standstill since last October basically..down a few pounds then right back up..I am planning to do the 5dpt next week to see if that will get me going again..

Hi :-),
Thanks for the reply to my post. I have been reading about the five day pouch test. I've never heard about it prior to this past week. I went out to the website www.5daypouchtest.com Have you heard of anyone trying it before? I want to see if there's a book on the subject ...complete with suggested meal choices. Sounds like it's well worth the effort.  If you have any more informaiton on the test , I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks ,
Kathy

I've done it - took me a couple of tried first as I kept falling off the wagon, but when I did get through it, I was really pleased with myself.  It helped my pouch be content with smaller portions, for a while at least.  I did lose weight, but put it back on almost straight away.  On the grads board there are lots of people who have done it and have success with it.  It wasn't for me though.

It depends on you and what works for you

I had my surgery in April of 2007.  At my 1 1/2 year mark, I all but quit loosing weight up to when I had my 2 year appointment with the surgeon.  Carbs have been my enemy.  Not the ones that are obvious like pasta and bread but things like bananas and peanut butter.  My doctor challenged me to eat a low glycemic diet.  No bread, no pasta, and no food item with a glycemic index number over 40.  I've lost 11 pounds in 10 days.  The only drawback has been my diabetes.  I've had to really monitor my sugar levels and insulin intake to insure my sugar doesn't go to low.  I've had one low blood sugar event that put me on my butt.  Other than that, it seems to be working.  All the other stuff is obvious; you have to have the vitamins, protein, water and exercise with the diet.

Good Luck,
  Ed

Hi Ed,
That's a good point... I never thought about the glycemic index choices. I'll have to dig out my South Beach diet book... I guess it would be a good reference for the glycemic index numbers for the foods I'm eating. I am journaling... and will see what the numbers show. I can so relate to carbs being the enemy. Sounds like this plan is working well for you... I'd love to lose my 11 lbs in 10 days... oh how great that would feel!!! Thanks for the reply.

Welcome to the BOTT board, you definately came to the right place for advice, support and general info. I haven't got alot of advice as I also am in the same boat as you are. I did recently do stage 1 Adkins and lost 4 lbs but that stopped right quick. I'm going back to a normal healthy diet and adding in lots of exercise to try to burn off some calories.

Best of luck!
