Evening Muchies

Hi All

does anyone else struggle with the evening muchies?  I'm not hungry, I don't need the food, but I'm in such a habit of reaching for snacks all evening.

Any suggestions on how to combat this?  I'm trying to drink something each time I feel like reaching for something to eat, I'm beginning to feel like a fish!!!

Thanks, Ruth

Usually when I find I get the not-hungry-munchies I realize I'm bored. The first thing I try to do (other than reach for the water) is change whatever activity I'm doing and find something a bit more stimulating. If I'm just sitting and watching TV, I find the commertials make me get up and meander aimlessly to the kitchen cupboards. Instead I hop online and surf my favorite entertainment sights. lolcats, news, webcomics, woot.com, and my favorite subscriptions on youtube. I find my mind turns away from the munchies and is entertained again.

Hope that helps.

Boredom is the cause for me too.  I just do something else - preferably something fun - but if I can't come up with something fun to do (real quickly) I just do anything to move my body.

Ruth,

I found an interesting website called amIHungry - if you subscribe to their newsletter (free) that has interesting stuff they send you a document called "101 things to do besides eat when you're NOT hungry" - it's got some great ideas. It's also a good website with recipies and other ideas. - some of the creative things to do : write a letter - call a friend - plan a "date" for someone special - clean out files - try a new hairstyle - try on some of your clothes ... etc - anyway - you get the idea -

I find especially when I'm watching TV at night I definetly get the munchies - think about the number of commercials that you see that are about food - this certainly puts your mind on eating.

AmIHungry is a non-diet weight management philosophy - developed by Michelle May, M.D.
Checking out this website would be another thing you could do when you get the munchies

I seem to be thinking about food all the time.  I mean all the time.  Doesn't matter what I am doing.  I could be engrossed into something at work and whammo---food thoughts enter my mind.

Am I crazy?
