Hi everyone!

So since March 8th I've been making some changes as to what I eat. I did the 5 day pouch test to kick start me and from there I have increased my protein by drinking 3 - 4 shakes a day. I stopped drinking soda, eating junk, bread, rice, potatoes, no read meat either. Been on cottage cheese, oatmeal (when I'm cold), canned fish, tilapia, sugar free cocoa (Swiss Miss), eggs, chicken, vegetables, but my weight hasn't changed. I have neuropathy in my right foot and where and AFO but the numbers on the scale just wouldn't stop still for me. Kept jumping around between 554 & 575 lbs Ha I typed 775 instead of 575. Today I have an appointment with my PCP doc at 11am for a referral to a Hematologist. My last blood labs were really low. I'm not planning on eating anything this morning until after my appointment in case they draw my labs again. I'm a little disappointed about last night but I plan to stick with it. Maybe I should just do strickly protein shakes and no meals. Anyway I will fill you in on everything when I get back if I'm not too exhausted. I find I get tired very easily, lately. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Hey Marilyn,
Not a lot of advice here but I will tell you that when our bodies feel like they are being starved they will hold onto every calorie. How many calories are you getting a day? Let us know what your Dr. says. Keep up the good work, it WILL pay off.

Wow Marilyn what a journey you have had.  You have lost half of yourself!  You have done so well so far.  I read your blog and your journey is very inspiring.  I think you would benefit from a personal dietician *****ally understands gastric bypass.  You may actually not be having enough calories in a day placing your metabolism in starvation mode. Let us know how your appointment goes!

Hi Marilyn!

When was the last time you went to a dietitian? I ask because I haven't been since 2004 and I am going tomorrow to make sure I am eating right. I remember as a kid being on a diet and they gave us a claendar that told us exactly what to eat for each meal and snack. It is the only diet I ever had when I lost ALL of my weight. It was nice actually. I didn't have to think about what I was going to eat, it just was what it was. And the food was good and all stuff I made, no frozen meals. I wish they could give us that :)

I will be looking for your updates on your anemia. Let us know what numbers they came back with. I have been there. I get treatments every 18 months or so with iron infusions. We tried supplements and b-12 shots, but they just don't work for me. I was told really the only way I will stop having so many issues is either to have my surgery reversed (no way they will consider that) or a hystorectomy and I will not consider that, I am not done having kids. I usually start getting my blood tested when I start getting headaches, feel dizzy, start losing feeling in my hands/feet... I don't let it get to the point of blacking out anymore :) (Sorry, sometimes we have to laugh)

I am curious if maybe you aren't eating enough calories? Or maybe too many? I am finding I am not eating enough right now, I think... but that is why I am going to the dietitian tomorrow. SO, that might be the answer for you?

Great job on your loss so far and for maintaining where you are right now. I know it isn't easy to do. I have gone up (mostly) and down so much since having surgery. But I am ready for change now :)

Hi Marilyn - I'm anxious to know what the dr has to say.  When I was getting so tired a few weeks back, I had blood work done for my drs appointment and found that my iron was low.  He put me on iron and Vit C (Vit C helps with the absorptions of iron - didn't know that before) for 3 months and have not had energy problems like that since.  It also help that I added a few calories.  Hope they can solve the riddle of what you need.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for all your comments and replies. First thing doc said was "Well you didn't need to see me today for a referral to a Hematologist" My blood pressure was 110/80. Better than last time I went. And more or less normal for me. He is also going to have me referred to a Pulmonologist and a Dietician. I told him about the changes I have been making.to my diet and what I eat. The protein shakes I have have 190 cals per drink. At one of my support group meetings I mentioned I was using Skim Milk to make my protein shakes and I was told to use a few drops of half and half with water instead. Today is my off day. After the doc's we stopped to pick up some food to bring home. I shared a bun with shredded coconut inside. And had some chop suey and a piece of taro for lunch. After a nap, I will make a shake and probably have at least one more before bed. I also told him I was seeing a counselor and attending quite a few monthly support groups. I told the PA who led last night's group meeting that I wished I had attended support groups right off the bat. I could have saved myself a lot of later grief. But I'm guessing the point is that I'm ready to do what I need to do now to get back on track. Here's to better tomorrow's.

Thanks for everything,
Marilyn

Water and half & half???  What is the deal with that??

Anyway it sounds like you are headed in the right direction and I sure don't want to be one more person who tells you my opinion as if it is the ultimate truth.  Ever doctor and dietitian and counselor  thinks they know the answer and the truth is there are many different right things to do.  Everyone journey is a little different.

I hope you can find someone who specializes in gastric bypass and really can help you out.  Your diet yesterday seems really low in protein.  Maybe Cathy can point you in the right direction.
