Hmm? Diet pills for assistance?

Does anyone know if these are safe in moderation? I mean more like those green tea pills or something, not a stacker II (ephedrine death anyone?)... just curious if anyone's tried them as appetite supressants or whatnot.

A few years ago back in 2005 I tried diet pills then I went to my personal trainer and told him and he told me bad idea. He told me they speed up your heart rate and then when the effect wears off you crash. And that is exactly what happened to me later on that night. I went to the bathroom before bed, got dizzy and passed out cold on my bethroom floor. I ended up flushing them down the toilet. So I would definitely check with your doctor first. I know for me they are not a good idea because of my weight and past problems of my blood pressure bottoming out which causes me to pass out. Take Care,

Hi,
I have tried them ALL so here's my review..  Ok, 1st, the bad news:

There's no magic pill that will cause any significant weight loss - eating less and doing some regular exercise is the only way that you will lose weight and keep it off.

Getting an adequate intake of vitamins and minerals when you're on a calorie restricted diet is  extremely difficult. I's virtually impossible from an intake of 1,200-1,500 calories a day. A healthy weight loss supplement would probably be a good idea. While the evidence of the health benefits conferred by vitamins and minerals is strong, that isn't the case with many herbal supplements and over the counter diet pills.

There are many sensational claims made for a number of 'miracle' herbal extracts that are simply not backed up by credible research...claims relating to weight loss and general or specific health and disease fighting benefits.  The market is flooded with so-called slimming products that are even listed as 'natural.' Generally, they contain the things you should have in your diet (and can spend way less money on).... B6 and B12, fiber, caffeine, chromium picollinate (which, by the way) has no credible evidence in it's ability to burn fat), green tea, etc. Some are actually harmful in that they may contain ingredients that stimulate the production of thyroxine which interferes with medications.

There is very little evidence that supports the effectiveness of over-the-counter diet pills and supplements and potions. The claims of significant weight loss in short periods of time brought on by such products are obviously false... if there was validity in their claims, the drug companies would be producing and marketing these products as well. Any drug that significantly aids in weight loss are classified as drugs and licensed and you need a prescription for (like xenical, meridia, etc).

That said, healthy weight loss supplements might be a worth while addition to a healthy diet and exercise, but don't waste your money on miracle' slimming pills and weight loss scams. There are a few supplements that have a bit of merit to their claims.

Green tea contain EGCG ( a polyphenol) which is a very powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants protect your body's DNA  from oxidation, the damage caused by oxidative free radicals. Does green tea promote weight loss? Green tea has caffeine which stimulates nerve activity in fat cells which MAY aid in the release of fat. The jury is still out on whether it is the polyphenols or the caffeine, but some studies revealed that the people who were drinking an average of one liter of green tea daily, did in fact burn more fat calories (only about 80-100/day, but I'll take it!!!).
There are also studies that prove green tea to help in the prevention of heart disease and some cancers, so if you want to drink 4-6 cups of it daily, go for it.

Ephedra, which is off the market now, did work (in my opinion) but it was unhealthy and made me feel like a psychopath. Once I stopped taking it, I gained everything back because my metabolism went back right back to where it was.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the only effective way to shed the pounds is by cutting out the bad stuff, and raising your metabolism by eating 5 or 6 times a day and exercising. Adding muscle mass turns your body into a machine and has you burning calories like crazy. Cross training and varying the intensity of your workouts will also boost your metabolism.

Sorry to babble, but I wanted to save you the time and money that I wasted on all of these so-called products... and more importantly save your health. It will come off, eventually and you want it to stay off... I have gained back a ton of weight after 2 back to back pregnancies and eating the wrong things and not exercising. I opted to try every weight loss pill and isagnix and detoxes.. you name it. It was a huge waste of time, money and caused me to feel speeded up (in a bad way) and not so pleasant to be around. I am FINALLY exercising and eating right and the scale is moving, sloooooowly, but surely.

Whatever you choose to do, I hope you choose the healthy route so that you will maintain your loss when you get to your goal. You'll get there

Cari
