hi all,
i was wondering if anyone has experience with the 5dpt. I am doing it now, but I was hoping for some honest opinions on what to expect.

does it really help to bring back the tightness of the pouch? does it kick start the weight loss again if you do that and follow the rules?

or is it just a way to train your mind, without real physical benefit, to get back to basics and follow the rules?

anyone who has done this, please reply- your insight will be so appreciated.

lots of hugs!

Cara,
I did the 5dpt once.  So my experience is limited.  But this is what I understand.  Obviously, 5 days will not make the pouch as "little" and as "tight" as it was very early post-op.  (I doubt that it makes it any smaller/tighter, but this is my opinion.)  However, after the 5-day process, it feels tighter and may have very temporarily "shrunk" a bit.

I don't think the main objective is to lose weight during the 5-days; however, I think most people have.  I lost about 6 lbs., if I remember; however, I quickly re-gained it all--mainly because (like an idiot) I started eating stupid real quick!

I believe any benefits are primarily mental--re-focusing on the early process of eating--but there is also a physical reaction as your body gets off the crap food and again appreciates the basic nutrition that we started with.

This is my opinion only--the "extreme-ness" of the 5dpt isn't necessary.  The same results can be had by simply going back to the basics (i.e., Days 4 & 5 for the most part + good carbs).

Good luck!

Always,
Jo

To me i think it works to re-train yourself to focus on what you are actually putting in your mouth.  I lost weight but what i gained is so much more.  it helped me to remember to write things down, to be accountable and to feel the success and accomplishment of finally sticking to something for a 5 days.

As with anything, you can get out of it what you put into it.  I tend to have a bit (alot) of an obsessive personality.  I can do anything to excess eating, drinking, smoking, dieting, exercise....so... I certainly do not mean to suggest that the 5DPT is the best thing around. I am just here to try to get my eating in check with the support of others!!
