Exercise advice

My town has a brand new YMCA with state of the art exercise machines. I would like to use them once a week  (1-1 1/2 hours). Any recommendations which once would I benefit the most from?
I am close to my goal weight and if I loose additional 5-10 pounds I would be extremely happy. If I loose inches, not pounds  that would count as well. i don't have the greatest exercise history, but now I am so determined and full of energy.

I do Zumba 4 days a week, and 1 day a week Serbian Folk dancing.

What am I missing considering I am basically dancing 5 days a week?

Since it is brand new they should be falling over themselves to help their potential new customers.  I would just have a sit down with one of the trainers.

Yea, I agree with Jen.  With it being a new YMCA, they should be more than happy to give you an initial tour with recommendations on machines best for you and even give you a demo on each one.  I'd also request, since they are new and I'm sure looking for new memberships, that you have a free initial appointment with a trainer.

Everyone is different as far as past activity levels, injuries-if any, etc. so I'd ask for some personal attention from them to consider becoming a member.

Your workout is awesome!

Thanks, I will give it a try. Our new YMCA is packed with people, you can't even park. I usually spend 10-15 minutes in a parking line.

Hi Mira

Congratulations on being so close to goal   Way to go    You are so wise to start adding some strength training with all the cardio you are getting with your dancing...

When they are giving you a demo of all the "machines" be sure and have them show you how to work with free weights.  Machines are great to start out with but they keep working the same muscles in the same spots...adding free weight workouts will compliment them and give you more variety.  Also, I am sure they will have classes there as well.  Sign up for a weight training class and also if they have it boxing.

You will find when the machines are busy then free weights are available.  Also, since you are interested in workout routines I highly recommend a magazine made just for women called Oxygen.  I love, love, love this magazine.

Kudos to you girl...and we want photos of that great bod you are working on

Take care,
Kathy

Kathy,

Thank you so much. I called and as a member I have 1 free session with personal trainer. Also there is a free class "Muscle Conditioning".

As far as my body goes, at age 49, well it may look better than when I was 30, but back then it did not look all that great. I did put some new pictures in my profile.

Thanks!
