hello,  my name is Linda,  i had RNY on Dec 15, 2003.   it has been 5 years now.   i maintain my weight for 4 1/2 years within 5 pounds or less.   now in the last 6 months i have gained 25 lbs.   i do have to take responsibilty for some of my bad choices.   now i am getting frustrated.   in the last month,  i have started excercising,  5 days a week,  on the treadmiil.  3.5 is the speed,  trying to figure out my daily calories.   if i eat 1000-1200,  i will maintain,   if i eat more than 1200,  i will gain,  if i eat less than 1000,  my body will into starvation mode.  i know that my pouch still works,  because i will still get the full sensation.

Welcome to BOTT Linda...I am still kindof a newbie, but I like so many of us here understand what you are saying.  I am two years post op and while I never reached my goal I'm seeing the scale going in the wrong direction.  Like you I must confess I too have made some bad choices, but coming to this board I'm trying to get back and stay on track.  There is plenty of help here so welcome aboard!

Hi Linda,

Welcome to BOTT.  Thanks for your post and sharing your concerns with us.

I experienced the same thing as you are going through.  I easily maintained my weight for years and then experienced a difficult period in my life and I regained 30 pounds before I knew it.  Looking back, I see that I checked out, became unconscious in my healthy habits and emotionally ate.  The good news is that I lost it but it was an invaluable lesson.  I also think that I maintained easily for so many years that I took for granted I would always stay at goal.

Are you experiencing a different time in your life?  Usually with a weight regain, especially after maintaining as you have, it is due to emotional eating.  Are you feeling some uncomfortable emotions that you are turning to food which is what's always worked in the past?

You are in the right place.  I'm glad that you reached out to us.  It will make a big difference.  I know it definitely has for me to stay on track.

Take care, Cathy

Cathy

Hi Linda!
Welcome to BOTT!  I was in the same boat.  It's so easy to fall back to bad habits.  Since my starting BOTT, I am down 17 lbs and feeling like my old self.  You did it before, you can do it again!

i am going through menopause,  i also work the night shift,  where i am on the phone talking to customers on my shift,   so it hard to stay on a schedule with eating.   was taking hormone pills,   then stop taking them,  thougt the hormone pills were making me gain the weight.
