Just learned that a rule of thumb for calorie consumption for maintenance is Calories = 10 x goal weight.  Who knew?  Not me  One reason I have never been able to maintain is I didn't have this info.  Hope it can help someone else as well.

I like it!  After a great 1 month weight loss I know that I need to slowly increae my calories.  I have been aroun 1,000- 1,200 and I really need about 1,400- 1,500 from that formula.  I knew this deep down but have been so motivated by my results I wasn't eating enough.  They certainly talked about that on the Biggest Loser last night.  Your body needs fuel!!

Further proof that we all know a lot about losing, and it goes without saying, we're experts on how to gain, but we haven't got a clue about how to maintain - no wonder we've gone up and down like yo-yos.  Sort of like expecting ourselves to speak Swahili (sp?) without lessons.

I've been wondering if I'm eating enough.......My nurse told me 1,000 calories to maintain, I should be eating 1,400 calories.........

I have a question though, at 1,000, I gain weight.....So increasing it to 1,400 calories, what's going to happen?

I have recently upped my exercise so the weight has stopped coming on.......

I haven't a clue.  It is a matter of balance between calories taken in and calories spent.  I guess we just have to listen to our own body as everybody's body is different.  Sounds as though that's exactly what you're doing.

I have read that somewhere once before, can not remember where.....  It is just so dang hard for me to wrap my head around the idea that I need 1500 calories to maintain, although maintaining is not what I am worried about at this second, I am just trying to get to my goal weight so I can try to maintain :)

Have a great day!!!

I have to keep reminding myself of a number of things 1. This is not a race, it's a lifetime    2. Change is not an event, it is a process    3. I'm doing so much better than I've ever done before    4. WE CAN DO (AND ARE DOING) THIS TOGETHER.

Thanks so much for caring

Thats great!  Thanks!  Does anyone know what the formula is for how much protein you need?

So lets say my goal is 150 lbs. 10 x 150 = 1500 calories to maintain? so 1000 calories should work to start losing again...hopefully.
