Hi All - I am new here and am trying desperately to get back on track. I had my surgery in April of 06 but never got close to my goal weight. I went from 312 to 201 (lowest). I have bounced up to 220 and am currently at 213. I need to take my vitamins and get moving for sure. But I have questions about what to eat. What protein bars/shakes are best? I have been eating the Power Bar Protein plus but think that they have to many calories and carbs. I also make my own protein smooties with ff strawberry yogurt, frzn strawberries and the berries and cream flavored protein powder from Hi health. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Abby

Hi,

Well, I am sure you will get alot of ideas.  Here is mine.  Unjury makes a great protein that is especially made for us.  They have unflavored to all the regular flavors.  Here is the link.

Also, you are right.  Alot of those products add sugar.  Read labels.  Vitamins!!!  Yes, you don't want to end up very ill.  This is a life long commitment!!!  How is your exercise?  I have to work on mine too.

I hope this helps.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

I had my lap band surgery 3+ years ago and am in the process of successfully losing the weight I regained over the past year.

Calories still count, just like they did before surgery.   There still is only 3 ways to lose weight.
1.  Eat fewer calories    2.  Burn more calories through exercise    3.  A combination of 1 & 2.  I know that I have to watch my calories like a hawk.  Before surgery I was never able to lose on the 1000 calories women are supposed to be able to lose on and not able to lose on 1000 calories after surgery.  I have to listen to my body.  Just be sure to first get in your 60 g of protein and 60 oz of water (some drs say water some say liquid) every day - as well as the supplements as indicated by your dr.

To get back on track, don't look way ahead - at first, commit to 5 minutes - we can do almost anything for 5 minutes - then to a fresh 5 min etc etc etc and before you know it you will have been on track for an hour.  YOU CAN DO IT!!!!   If you find yourself struggling, take time to sign on the BOTT and talk to us.

I believe in you, now you believe in you.

WE CAN DO (AND ARE DOING) THIS TOGETHER, YES WE CAN

Hi Abby!

Wecome to BOTT, I look forward to getting to know you!
As for the protien, I have tried I think almost everything under the sun, and really like Unjury  (web site was provided above) and Elite Whey Protein (http://www.dymatize.com/mivastore/merchant.mvc?screen=prod&s tore_code=dbe&product_code=p100), this one comes in 11 flavors, so it is nice to be able to mix them up....  The shake you make sounds really yummy, I have never been 'creative' ok maybe motivated enough to do anything like that.  I am more the pour the water into the cup and add a scoop or two of the powder shake like crazy and go type of gal...

Hope this helps some!  Have a great BOTTing day!

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will look into the unjury proteins. And also start taking all my vitamins again. I have already had the severe anemia that led to intravenuous iron treatmemts. Joy!  I also need to go back to my surgeon. i have not been there since at all for over a year if not longer...longer I think.  Not only have I not lost the weight, I still owe them money. My embarassment has kept me away. There does not seem to be to many of Dr Blackstones patients on here.

Any ideas on what protein bar to use?

Thanks again for all of your help!!

I can understand the embarrassment, but remember the Dr. is the best one to help you!  I am not sure about the bars, I would love to hear some suggestions from others as I think it would make a good substitute for when I just do not have time to eat a meal.
