STUCK!!!!!

I had surgery 15 1/2 months ago.  I am down to my last 10 pounds and it does not want to budge.  I have lost 3 pounds since I joined BOTT but it has been a struggle.  My body just doesn't seem to want to give up those last 10 pounds.

I had decided when I started this journey that when I got down to my last 30 pounds I would join WW to get the last 30 pounds off, reach my goal and become a lifetime member so I would always have someone besides myself to be accountable to.  Well I have lost 20 pounds with WW since I joined in September and I have been working for these past 6 weeks on the last 10 pounds.  I am using the highest  goal weight I can use to reach my goal with WW and make Lifetime.  I'm basically following the Core program even though they have changed the program.  Core works great for WLS people.  With the Core program you do not have to journal, but I'm thinking maybe that is what I need to start doing....Bite It and Write It.

For all you people that have or had reached your goal, did you also struggle with the last few pounds?  I do feel blessed because I am 10 pounds from my goal, but I am determined to make it.  I read in many books about WLS that only 20% of WLS patients ever reach their goal.  Most lose 70% of the weight they need to lose.  When I read that, I said I would be part of the 20% that makes it!!!  YES I CAN!!!!!   YES I WILL!!!!

We can do this with each other's help...even though I attend WW meetings, I have not told anyone but the Leader that I had WLS, I still need to come here to talk with people that have been through the same experiences.

Welcome Maureen.....another of Dr. A's patients.

Smiles :)

I do journal.  I do that for 3 reasons
1. so I am accountable that I do not eat too much
2. so I can be accountable that I do not eat too little (that will also make your body to store anything and everything)

And last but not least: I can then calculate my weekly average, so day to day I have some leverage and can have more or less on different days (to be like a skinny person). I was told that if you keep same cal every day, your body gets used to that level and would neither let you gain or lose the last few lbs.  But if you fool it thinking that the food is there, then you may be able to lose.

I have last ~ 10 lbs to lose, and that is debatable. On one side my doc, based on "computer number" told me I need to do that,. on the other hand - my body composition is 21 % fat, so losing 10 lbs may put me in 15% body fat - a bit too low for a 45+ year old woman.  Will see.  I was losing weight every week, but I had no energy what so ever. So i made a point of stop losing and getting my energy back.  I did that too well. Now I got my energy, but the weight stabilized.  maybe that is good maybe not.  I think with TT and  breast lift I can lose 5 lbs of skin, so I only need to lose 5 lbs.

Do you think you need to lose the extra 10 lbs?  do you know your body composition? maybe you can get that done, So you know how much of you is lean body mass and how much is fat?

I know that you want to get the lifetime WW membership, but if you are at or below 20% body fat - your body may be very reluctant to let go of the reserves.  Just an idea...

FYI; I am stubborn and I will lose the last 10 lbs just to show them that I can, but I am not sure if that would be good for me... will see, maybe they are right and I need to get smaller? (I still have my "love handles" lol)

Hi,

Our bodies are strange creatures.  It will decide what it wants to weigh.  The fight happens when we want to go beyond that.  If you feel good, healthy, full of energy, then maybe you should let your body have that 10 pounds.  What is your BMI?  If it is within the normal range, than your body's goal is reached.  If not, than you are on one of those stinky plateaus.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

Whoa, girl!!!  How about celebrating that 3 pound loss?

Give yourself a GIANT pat on the back for staying on track (with whatever plan you choose to use)
even though it was a struggle

Those last few pounds seem to want to stick like glue!  I think of it as a malicious Mother Nature saying, "Are you serious?  I'm going to make this as unpleasant as I can just to show you I'm better than you are."  Well, guess what?  You can outdo Mother Nature any old time you choose!

You're always welcome here!!!!
