Hi all: I had bypass 5 yrs ago ( RNY ) I had a  baby in June of 06 and also so a 8 yr old boy and have not lost all of the weight from that and have gained more to the tune of 30 lbs. My doctor left down soon after I had surgery so I had no one to go to. To help me get back on track. But when I had surgery I rember them telling me to have no carbs. No bread, flour, pasta ect.I tried last year to lose it and had good luck got down to 155 I even went to a new doctor who told me to eat 1,300cal a day 43g fat and 60 gram protein and 163g of carbs manily form whole grains. It souned off so I never realy tried to do it.  .But this past  fall Iost my job and fell of the weight loss train becuse of the stress at home some of witch is my weight. I have since found a job less pay with little to no hours I live at Lake of The Ozarks in central Missouri, in a very small town 1200 people, So it is very hard to find work this time of the year.I guess What I'm asking is does what the new doctor told me sound off? What kind of eating plan are you guys on? Should I be drinking protien shakes?  they made me sick so i stop drinking them years ago.Now that Ihave wrote a novel I'll shut  up.

I had lap band surgery so my situation's a little different that yours as I absorb everything I consume - just takes longer  But, it's been my experience I have to listen to my body.  I have never been able to lose on 1000 calories a day and, guess what, surgery didn't change that at all.

It really doesn't matter what I "can" eat as it's written on paper,  I just have to eat what my body tells me I "can" eat.

I realize this isn't any help at all to you, just felt the need to share my experience.

Have a good BOTT day

I had my surgery just 6 months before you and I have gained back 30 lbs over the past two years from my lowest weight. I agree what the doctor says sounds off. I called my original surgeon and reccomended getting back to basics. Protein first, veggies second and stay away from the nasty carb monster. For myself, I find that if I start with the carbs I have trouble stopping. You do not have to drink protein shakes, you can find the protein you need in meats, cheeses, beans, etc., there are many options. The only time I have a shake is if I'm in a pinch and no time to eat. Good Luck!

Hi Melisahi.gif ,
Welcome!  I had my surgery many moons ago.  Since I have been BOTTing, I have tried to keep my calories at about 11-1200.  I do drink protein shakes when I get bored or when I need to get in extra protein.  I try to get in at least 90-100 grams of protein.  Just try to get back to the basics.  No drinking right after meals, protein first, good carbs only and no sweets.  You can do this!!
