Hey everyone.. I need some suggestions... I've switched to eating sugar fee oatmeal this week for breakfast.  I usually eat around 730 am but by time 1000 rolls around I am absolutely starving and still have 2 hours until lunch.  what are some "good" foods that everyone uses as a midmorning snack??

I find that when I add a scoop of protein powder to my oatmean (I use a package of Weight Loss oatmeal) it satisfies me until lunch.  I find I don't do well if I snack.

I agree that you probably need more protein with breakfast, whether its adding powder to your oatmeal, or adding something like a hardboiled egg to your breakfast plan.

But a healthy planned snack is also a great option. Here are some of my favorite snacks:

cheese stick

fake "crab" stick

apple with PB

cottage cheese and peaches

The portion size would be up to you. Let us know how this works for you!!

I agree that you probably  need more protein w/the oatmeal and that will help, but also, having a snack around 10am is a good idea anyway to help to keep the bloodsugars level throughout the day. I usually grab for a cheese stick, cottage cheese, protein bar, greek yogurt, ham/cheese roll up, etc. Good Luck!!!

I wanted to be cute and say a slice of chocolate cake does me nicely mid morning :)) but actually I find having a small bag of Kays snacks or some soy crisps works for me. How about a protein bar. Adkins make a good one that's covered in peanuts and I like this one because it not covered in chocolate and isn't too sweet it's sort of salty sweet.

Like others have suggested, when I have oatmeal for b'fast, I generally add 1/2 scoop of protein powder.  I know that choc may sound "ack" w/ it, but I like it; I also think vanilla would be good.  I just use my normal Fortress Whey Protein from Walmart: (per scoop) 100 cals, 26 g. prot., 3 carbs.  I also add a small handful of frozen blueberries & a small handful of almonds (chopped or not) to my oatmeal, so it's a nice big bowl of nutrition!

Even if I "can" go til lunch on a good b'fast, I still mentally do better if I have a snack.  Most often I have cottage cheese w/ just a little dry sf jello mixed in & maybe a couple slices of peaches or hunks of pineapple.

I also absolutely love to cut up about 1/2 apple into hunks and then roll them in a mixture of protein powder & Splenda, which I mix about 1/2 & 1/2.  I do the same thing w/ banana.  Sometimes I dab just a little p.b. on the apples or banana pieces and then roll them in the protein mixture--love it.

Always,
Jo

another way to add protein to your oatmeal is to make it with skim milk vs water.  Milk is an amazing source of protein people often forget about.

I always eat two breakfastses.  One at 7am when I leave for work -- eat/drink in the car on my commute.  Then again at 10am at my desk.

My 1st Breakfast is almost always a protein shake or protein bar.
My 2nd Breakfast is one of the following:
 * oatmeal
 * yogurt w/ granola
 * fruit & cheese
 * protein souffle (that's this week's choice)

I then eat lunch around 1pm.  Have another snack around 4:30pm and dinner at 8pm when I finally get home from work.

My Recipe Index is packed full of yumminess!
