Old story . . . evening grazing

I've been lurking on the BOTT board for a couple weeks and promised myself I was going to start posting today.  But I'm so mad at myself right now for what I've eaten just in the past 1 1/2 hrs.!!!

Had a good day (with the operative word being day):
B: EAS choc protein drink
S: small handful of almonds
L:  tuna salad (tuna/egg/cheese/dab of rf mayo) & slice whole wheat toast
S: lt. yogurt w/ blueberries/peaches & 1/8 c. of Grape Nuts
D: 1 egg, 1 toast, about 1/2 c. tuna salad (I know--odd combo of foods--I need to go to the store!)

So far, pretty good.  I also went to the gym and did 40 min. of cardio (just went back last week after being AWOL for many months).  I plan to work back into a part cardio and part weight training routine totalling about an hr./day, but I'm not there yet.

Then came evening.  I really don't think I can say exactly what I've had (not b/c I won't admit it but b/c I'm not sure of amounts), but it has consisted of Riesen choc candy (maybe 6 pieces--& they are substantial!), couple tsp. p.b., about 6 choc kisses, snack size bag of Skittles, and maybe 6-7 crackers.  Totally crap--not really hungry--classic grazing.

I really want to get back on track and lose at least 25 of the 40 lbs. I've regained over the past 2 years.  I obviously have to start by getting every bit of junk food out of the house.  I had already ditched most of the leftover holiday stuff and crap from my ladies' bridge last week, but I got digging around and found enough to get me in trouble.

Always,
Jo

First off, your NOT ALONE!  We are all here on the BOTT board for the same reason.  You have lost alot of weight, and you CAN do it again.  Start by thinking positive and know your worth it!  Get all the bad foods out of your house and DONT bring them back in, that's a great way to start.  I joined fitday.com and I love it.  Check it out.  http://www.fitday.com/  It's a big eye opener for sure!

Wishing you all the best!

Thanks!  I did forget to mention that I'm starting to post my food on thedailyplate.com (I like that one better than fitday, but same difference).  That does help me--to an extent!--because I still have some of the old, bad denial/hiding/sneakiness habits (i.e., when it starts to get ugly, calorie-wise, I stop entering my foods)--real mature, huh?  You'd think by my age, I could get honest with myself.

Working on it . . .

Thanks for replying!

Always,
Jo

You really are not alone...when I am eating too much of the wrong stuff....I don't track my eating either.....and then I act surprised and have the nerve to be angry and the world cause the scale has moved up! So I can definitely relate to you here!  And I too am working on it ......

OMG!  I guess I thought I was the only one grazing at night.  It is really getting bad.  I have not posted my food intake because it has been sooooo bad.  I can't seem to stop.  My husband is gone all week long and I just wander around, grazing on anything and everything.  I had throw out food like you would not believe, but then I just buy more.
I do ok during the day but the nights are terrible.  i know that I need to keep busy and I do read and knit and paint, but none of those things are hold my attention like the head hunger for food.

Patsy, you sound just like me.  My days are usually right-on (although I do have my bad days too), but I just fall apart in the evening no matter how I try to plan not to.  I'd have additional problems if my husband were gone like yours is.  Mine is gone every Mon. & Wed. nights, so I understand!  And when he's home, he is usually in the family room w/ his laptop & TV, and I'm usually in our "den" with our desktop and TV--so it's very easy to just graze unnoticed!  And, like you, I throw out the tempting foods . . . but buy more.

I also love to read, but it's so hard for me NOT to eat at the same time!

One thing I'm going to start is a large counted cross-stitch project.  That is one of the few things that I have some success doing without eating because I get concentrating AND have to keep my hands clean!!

Let's keep encouraging each other!

Always,
Jo

Wow we do sound similiar.  My husband works in Houston Monday thru Friday and only home on the weekends.  Then he is on the computer a lot then.  When he is home we stay busy and I don't think about eating.

Like today, I have had all my vitamins and doing a emailing/surfing.  I got cold so I have had a cup of tea.  I need to go to the store to pick up a few things, but I am going to get "good for me" things.  I do crave salads and I love chicken salad with lots of stuff in it.

Today I am going to get my knitting out.  I started a blanket for my grandson and made some mistakes so I put it up.  I need to get it back out, take it apart and start over. UGH!  But that should keep me busy for awhile.

Yes let's encourage each other!  If it was not so cold I might go for a walk, but I am freezing and have the sniffles, so better stay in and warm.

Good luck today!

I am a night time grazer too. But I have started drinking a cup or 2 of hot flavored tea. It really has a filling sensation to it. And that brings me back to reality. Sometimes I feel if I don't eat those chips I'll die. I keep the teas out on the counter so I see them if I am going for something I know I shouldn't have. The tea has worked for me plus it's a little extra liquid.

Thanks for the reminder about tea.  I don't drink tea in any way, shape, or form (even all the cool-sounding flavored teas and those that people say "don't really taste like tea"!), but it did remind me of how I used to drink the Swiss Miss no-sugar-added or the "diet" hot choc.  I make it w/ about 1/2 sk milk & 1/2 water--and a small squirt of lt. choc syrup.  That sounds good to me for in the evening!

Always,
Jo
