Going Cold Turkey from Soda

Hey everyone. I started today on my new journey to eating better for myself and family. I cut out Soda and Candy. My head already hurts! I did not give up my coffee, I figured it would be too much to handle if I went off everything!

I had RNY 6/04 (321lbs), lost 154lbs. Then had 2 babies, now I am back up to 200 I am so uncomfortable with myself. I must lose this 30lbs.

How long should I give myself to get the Soda/Candy cravings out of my system before I move onto the next step, EXERCISE. I want to make sure I do this right so I don't fail.

LOL...I thought you were talking about Cold Turkey soda!!!!  I was thinking...how gross but maybe she is onto something!!!

Exercise is what keeps my mind off soda!!  But I do reward myself after my 64oz of water with a diet cola.

Okay, when I read this post I thought that I was reading a post that I had written. Your story sounds just like mine. I, too, had my surgery in June 04, had 2 babies (07 & 08) and have 30lbs to lose.

I must admit (how ashamed I am) that I am a recovering Pepsi & candy addict.

I can NOT however go without coffee I do def instead.

It took me about a week before I got rid of those headaches, but I am here to tell you that they DO go away (getting down off my soapbox)

Be Blessed,
Sharonne

Hi Felicia,

You'll probably have some headaches for a couple of days.  Depending on how much soda you drank and candy you ate, it'll take a bit to get that double sugar supply out of your system.  With your headaches, try to think of it as a positive. Your body is essentially withdrawing from the sugar in your system.  You're detoxing your body from the influence of sugar.

Congratulations!  Try to maybe add some sugar free flavorings (Crystal Lite) or the already non-carbonated flavored waters.

With the rate you're going with soda and candy eliminated from your intake, you'll get back where you want to be before you know it.

Hi Felicia,

We are so proud of you..  Make sure you are taking baby steps to be successful long term.  If you find this is to hard, then try cutting back and drinking less each wee****il you are not drinking any more pop and eating candy.

Sometimes cold turkey is the best, but it's ok to take it one step at a time.

Be sure to keep us posted!!!

Take care,
Kathy

That candy monster can be rough one to shake but I have faith you can do it. I am in mid battle with the same monster.
Keep up the good work. We can doo it.
