No Soda

Well thanks to this site I have not had any soda since January 2.  I have trying very hard to get back to basics again.  I know a  lot of people try the Pouch Test, but if I am feeling my pouch is full after I don't eat very much is it really necessary to do the pouch test?

Also my iron is very low because I have not been taking my vitamins since May.  My doctor said he is surprised I haven't been in the hospital.  My question is if I am very anemic will that prevent weight loss?  I think I have lost abou t 3 pounds in the last week, but I was hoping since I was following the rules and not getting all the sugar from soda that I would lose more than that.

Thank you for all your input,
Christine

Hi Christine,

That is wonderful that you've been soda-free since January 2.  That is a fantastic accomplishment.  I found the taste for soda goes away when you're off of it.  I used to be a huge Diet Dr. Pepper customer and I can't tell you the last time I had a soda.  Don't want it, certainly don't need it.

As far as the 5 Day Pouch Test, it isn't necessary to do the pouch test.  The results and reviews of the pouch test are mixed.  It works for some people and not for others.  I think it is certainly up to the person as to what to do.  For me, I think you can get back in touch with your pouch by simply refocusing on protein.  I can eat much, much more if I eat sugar, snack, junk, simple carbs.  It seems like my pouch has huge holes in it and has stretched to my toes.  When I eat protein, I am very aware of the satiation and fullness my pouch feels.  With protein and healthy choices, I know my pouch works.

Definitely make part of BOTT taking your vitamins regularly.  That's much.  It is the ultimate in health insurance for you as a wls patient.  If you are anemic, it wouldn't impact your weight loss with that alone.  You probably feel tired and fatigued and have cut back on your activity/exercise and that can cause the stall in your weight loss.

Keep on track with what you're doing because it will work.  It may not show up today or tomorrow but getting rid of the sodas and accompanying sugar, it will happen.

Hi,

You look thin in your picture.  How much have you lost and what is your goal?  I have learned over the years that it doesn't really matter what my personal goal is.  My body decides what it wants to weigh and to go beyond that, it takes alot of effort.  For me, I don't want to be chained to diets and scales and calorie counting.  Now, this is me.  Everyone is different.  Yes, my choices are not always great.  I have my own "head" issues I am dealing with.  Anyway, about four years ago, I was so thin, I looked gaunt and unhealthy.  To the world, I probably would have fit right in with the "thin" crowd.  I didn't feel all that well.  Yea, it was nice fitting into all the nice size 2 clothes, but it just wasn't healthy.  Would I like to go back to that?  I'm not sure.  I feel and look just fine in an 8-10.

As for vitamins.  I am sorry you didn't get the scoop on that pre-op.  It is for life.  Everyday for as long as you live.  It is part of what is keeping us alive and healthy.  It is on the same par as insulin to a diabetic.  Keep us posted ok?

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

I find my B-12 is essential to keeping my energy level up.  Being anemic would probably mean less energy and less energy usually results in less exercise, and less exercise has a big impact on weight loss.

I'm so glad you are allowing us to share in your journey.   Keep up your good work!!!

WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER, YES WE CAN!!!!!

Have a happy day
