Back On Track Together
Confessions of a 2 year post op! Kind of Long
Hey everyone!!! I had my 2 year surgiversary December 27th. I have to say that I think I wasted some precious time. Dont get me wrong I feel great and am rid of diabetes and have tons of self confidence BUT....I know there was a lot more I could have accomplished weight loss wise. I am down about 90 pounds. I never reached my 100 pound (surgeon) goal. Personally I want to lose 20 more pounds. I have to confess that I drink with most meals. I know this is one of my biggest problems. This is my first baby step in getting back on track. I WILL NOT DRINK WITH MEALS OR 30 MINUTES BEFORE OR 30 MINUTES AFTER!! I exercise but not like I should. I joined Curves back in the Summer of 08 and absolutely love going there. I just need to vow to go more days than I actually do. I read the blog back to basics and it really opened my eyes. Today I have started my Back on track journey. I read about the 5 DPT and decided I will try to go back to basics before trying the pouch test. I have started my day with Slim Fast low carb 20 gram protien shake. ( I quit these before because of the horrific gas LOL) My family will deal with it now! I love this board and hope to be helpful to others and would love some support from you all!!! Sorry I keep rambling but I need to put this all in writing for myself! Everyone have a great Saturday and THANKS for listening(reading)!!!
Hey jen thanks for your reply!! I am happy the 5DPT worked for you and hope it got you back on track. I am going back to basics before trying it. I think a few changes in my every day life can help tremendously!! Water, water, water...Protien, protein protein are my first priorities!! Have a great day!
Thanks for your post. Welcome to BOTT. You mention in your post that you hope to helpful to others - you already have by sharing the info in your post.
Drinking with meals is a habit. Occasional sips if something is stuck or dry is okay. You may already know but I'll share with you something that helped me.
I was a big water drinking with meals. Then I learned to think of our pouch like a funnel. The purpose is to eat and sustain the sense of satiety through lean proteins is to stay as long as possible in our pouch. So, I've got visualized this funnel inside of me and my protein and other healthy food choices sitting around in the funnel slowly emptying. If I drink with my meals, I'm essentially flushing that high quality nutritional meal down my funnel. Then I'm hungry a very short time afterwards.
Thinking that way helped me to stop that habit pretty quickly.
Again, congrats on being a BOTTer with all of us.

Cathy thanks so much for your insight! I knew this is why I kept feeling hungry but would not stop what I was doing. I reminded myself of the way I was with food pre op. What I dont understand is how something so simple is so hard to stop doing(drinking w/meals). I smoked for 26 years and on May 15,2006 I had to give them up and have NOT TOUCHED ONE since. I had heart problems at the age of 39 and my cardiologist said "you smoke, you die" thats all he had to say and he only had to say it once for me. I was laying in the hospital on a heart monitor waiting for the next morning to have a heart cath. I never imagined at my age I would have a 95% blockage!! I am so ready to continue a healthy life style and have to keep writing it out so I will be held accountable!!! So if I tend to start rambling you can just skip over it LOL!!!
No, you keep what you call rambling....I call it pure sharing. Write and share anything and everything here.
I know my suggestion about not drinking with meals is very hard. It was one of the hardest changes I had to make when I had surgery. The funnel concept really helped me and still does today. At times, I still want to drink so that habits gone away entirely. I stop myself when I think about my pouch flushing my healthy efforts away. If you can't stop entirely, try it one meal at a time. Maybe that can be your personal goal for January or February, that you won't drink with one meal. Just think that you don't flush your pouch!!
Wow, congratulations for stop smoking after 26 years. Been a non-smoker since May 2006. That's an amazing accomplishment. That is such a hard thing to do but you did it. If you can do that, you can do anything!

I know where you are coming from with the drinking and eating thing...I'm like Cathy though...once I got a mental picture of what was going on with my pouch it has been so much easier. I joined here on the 30th of Dec. I have already lost 7 pounds!!! That is enough motivation to keep me going...but...I am also reconnecting with a healthier me...my energy levels have risen alot...no more mid-day naps. That surprised me!!! The benefits of a little struggle far outweighs them...I'm here to stay...hope you are too...Welcome...Linda
