Back On Track Together
Stopped losing 5 months after RNY
I had RNY in Feb. 2008 and lost consistently until the middle of July. Then I completely stopped losing. I lost a total of 70 lbs. I am going to make an appointment with my surgeon because I know this is not right.
While I have messed up a couple of times, I have done a very good job keeping to the rules about eating and exercising. While 70 lbs is good, I'm very disappointed that I went through everything I did to only get down to 160 lbs.
Anyone have this experience or have any idea what may have caused by weight lose period to be so short?

Hi Beth,
First off, congratulations on losing 70 pounds. That's great.
Since you have followed your surgeons rules as to food choices and exercising, I think a follow-up appointment is appropriate.
Usually when a weight loss is stalled it is due to regularly making unhealthy food choices, grazing, stop exercising, too little protein and other habits. Since you aren't doing any of those, I would talk to your surgeon.
Your surgery is always going to be your tool. It's always there for you to use. After talking to your surgeon, you'll have some direction as to what the cause is and can get back to losing.
Please let us know what you find out. We're here for you!

Beth, I had a similar experience although I stopped at one year and 100 lbs.
Definitely go see your surgeon and make sure that everything is physically OK.
Assuming you're fine, you need to start measuring your food and journaling. Write down the accurate amount of everything you eat, your water and exercise. Don't cheat, no one has to see this but you. I think you might be surprised at what you see.
This happened to me, I never really measured and was consuming way more calories and more carbs than I realized.
You can turn it around and start losing again! Good luck!
