I met with my trainer yesterday and she was concerned that I wasn't eating enough.  She wanted me to have 1800 - 2000 calories!!! I have been averaging 850 -950 calories.  I tried to explain that it's different when you have rny.  What are the numbers that we should be following for weight loss.  Have a great day!

Yep, trainers at a gym are going to base their recommendations on someone with a normal digestive system.  They really won't understand unless they do their own research on the topic.  You could give her a copy of the Bariatric Nutrition Guidelines from the ASMBS to help educate her, if you want.

I don't know when your surgery was ... but from your caloric intake, it sounds like you are very early out, right?  If 850-950 calories/day is what your bariatric nutritionist has recommended for you, then this is where you should be.  If you haven't gotten a recent update on this lately, give your surgeon's office a call and ask for clarification.

Personally ... I'm almost 14 months out and I'm eating on average 1200 calories a day and slowly trying to get up to my RMR (resting metobolic rate) of 1400.  I also exercise about 5 times a week with both cardio and weight training.

Pam, your posts are full of intelligence. I always look forward to hearing what you have to say.

I have a question for you. I am 2 1/2 years post-op and want to lose my regained weight. How many calories would you recommend as far as daily intake?

Hi Pam,
Thanks for the info.  I will bring it to her tomorrow.  Actually, I am 9 years out and trying to lose my 40 lbs. of regain.  My problem is that I am  all or nothing when I set my mind to something.  I have been "back on track" for 5 days now and have lost 4 lbs.  Yesterday I had 828 in calories, 44 in carbs and 30 fats.  I am just trying to get an idea of what my intakes should be.

Deb,
I am 2 years out and have gained 15 pounds -- what are you eating, what is a typical day like for you.  I am having a hard time finding anything from my early on days.
