Back On Track Together
New to Exercise
Not to start a thread seperate from exercise and food accountability but just want to scream good for me! And at the same time I feel like such a wimp!
As many of you know I have just recently been cleared for exercise since March 13 2007 other then light walking. Won't go into lots of details but there it is. I think I have done fantastic with my loss despite the lack of exercise but mourn the opportunities I missed to lose more then I have. But such is life.
But this morning I got on our treadmill and instead of the insipid 1 mph or 1.5 mph that I used to do. I started out there and it was work to have to go that slow! So I ramped it up a bit and ended up at 2.5 mph! I did about 5 minutes at 2.0 and below, then 20 mins at 2.5 and back down to 2.0 for the last 5!
The treadmill never got out of the warmup zone but it was at top of warm up. I burned 120 calories according to it. Not many but it is a start, right?
As soon as I feel semi comfortable with 2.5 I will ramp it up again. I also discovered tha****ching tv is not the way to keep my mind occupied! Will have to dig out an mp3 player and put some moving tunes on it, just for this!
Yipeeee for me!

The TV doesn't do it for me either. Have a bunch of different workout playlists loaded in my iPod. I've been slacking for past 6 weeks on exercise. So I'm back at square 1. I actually spent some time warming up on recumbent bike before hitting Satan's Machine...I mean the elliptical. Have to build up my stamina AGAIN. Listening to my music is what keeps me moving and I get a good workout before I know what hit me. What kind of music gets you moving??? Most of my workout tunes are classic rock and roll. I'll share the list if you're interested.
Hi Barb,
The television is a problem for me too. Unless there is something that I'm really interested in, jus****ching something lends to feeling bored. Being bored is not a good thing for me. Eating used to be a way to fill my time so I need to stay aware of past habits to pass my time. That isn't to say I don't have things to do because I definitely do. It is just that I don't want to do them LOL!
I downloaded some songs from a website called "Success Songs" (www.successsongs.com). They are very upbeat and the lyrics are positive and empowering. I walk to those a lot on my iPod. Whenever I'm feeling like I need a boost, I'll also listen to them. They have a free song you can download that is among my favorites. It is called "It's My Time."

Hi Carolyn,
Yeah YOU! That is great. Look at how far you've come. I'm with you in screaming - GOOD FOR YOU!
I'm with you about the television. Boredom is a killer for me and if there isn't anything in particular that I want to watch, television can be a problem because the next step is boredom.
Congratulations!

I very seldom just "watch" tv. I use it as background noise when I am alone in the house. I turn on CMT when I clean.
When I do watch TV, I usually have some crocheting in my hands. If I don't keep the hands busy they want either food or cigarette and I don't do cigarette's anymore, even though I want one! And I won't be doing the mindless food if I have my way about it!
I may be starting with baby steps here but I have to begin somewhere!
