I am getting  ready to start a new BOTT goal for myself. I am going to start this morning! My plans are to get back to eating correctly, I slipped over the holiday and don't want that to continue during the New Year's holiday. I am going to the gym 4 times a week and I enlisted a friend to come with me for even more motivation. I work at the local hospital and teh Recreation Center has a special for hospital employees, it is half price. I am going to get a year pass. I can do this in January and I plan to do it like the 2nd. LOL I also got two new cookbooks, one has a charter that takes favorite recipes and makes them in a lighter fashion, fewer calories and fat, same flavor. I loved that feature.I am going to try positive self talk also, I will be replacing those voices in my head that like to whisper I am a failure and I cannot finish so why bother, with positive affirmations that will have a more positive tone. I will be successful in whatever I chose to do. So I am ready to roll and ready to get back on track.
Anyone wanting to join me?

Hi Dottie!!

You've got some great strategies in place to greet 2009.

What cookbooks do you have?  The one about taking recipes and making them lighter sounds great.  I'm not Martha Stewart, Rachael Ray or anything close.  I need all the help I can get!!  Thanks for sharing that.

Part of my process to be on track is to really combat emotional eating.  I'm a deep, sensitive person which I love about myself but the flip side is that emotional eating tends to be my big problem.  I have to do a lot of positive self-talk and using strategies to stay on track.

I'm with you!!

Hi Cathy! The cookbook I picked up is the newest Taste of Home Cookbook. I like the fact that it has sections that take say recipes for chili and give you a regular recipe, a light recipe and a recipe for 2 people. They are scattered throughout the book for all kinds of dishes.
I know exactly what you are dealing with when you speak of emotional eating. I deal with that almost on a daily basis. It is something I have to keep up on and have strategies readily available because you never know when a stressful moment is going to hit. I am learinig to deal with that in non food ways. I use positive self talk and mental imagery, anything that works. I do things like taking more than I know I can eat so my head will look at the plate and say, oh that is enough to satisfy me. I know for some there would be a danger of then eating the whole plate of food, however that has never been a problem for me. When I am full I stop. It drives some of my co workers crazy and I am called wasteful and whatever, but it works for me. So I use that strategiy. I get crazy when they tell me I somehow didn't work hard enough for this weight loss since I had surgery, if only they could walk one day in my shoes. But I am learning to deal with that also. It is hard though. I am starting to not tell anyone that I have had surgery when they ask how I lost the weight because I cannot stand to see the change in the look on their face when I say Lap Band. IT is not fair, but it is what it is. SIGH!!!!

Have a great New Year.

Dottie,

I'll have to check out this cookbook.  I love to read cookbooks because I learn a lot about cookiing that way.

I struggle tremedously with emotional eating.  What kind of self-talk do you use?  What kind of visualization?

I find positive affirmations quite effective for lifting my self confidence. Right now I tell myself everyday that I will be successful at whatever I chose to do. I am successful and I will continue to be successful.
I find that what I focus on is what is in my head, so I make sure the things I am focusing on are good for me and are beneficial to my lifestyle. For example if I am focusing on and obsessing over the "goodies" I cannot have that is the picture in my head, deprivation and frustration. If I instead focus on the things I want (weight loss, learning to love healthy foods, exercise)and the things that are beneficial to me, that is the image in my head. I know it is kind of complicated and hard to explain, but it is clear as a bell in my head. LOL
I am big on goals and rewards to. I am worth working on and I am certainly worth rewarding!

Happy New Years!
