Hello again! I have not been on here for a while and can use the motivation to move forward! I have found a couple pounds and am back to journaling this week to get rid of it! Also will be meeting with the psych from my team this week to try to get back into the swing of things. Had a recent illness and could not tolerate any meats really for about 10 days. I did discover what I did not want to know that carbs are really well tolerated and "slide" easily. Now back to eating better with a balance.  Will look for motivation and what people are eating for tips!!

I originally had a VBG in 1997 lost almost 100 lbs and regained back up to 250 lbs. I then had a revision surgery to the RNY in 2005. I had major post op complications but pulled thru them all. I was able to lose down to 137 lbs (my absolute lowest). I have since regained over 40 lbs and currently weigh around 180 lbs. I would love to lose 25-35 lbs, because of the return of some of my comorbidities (high blood pressure). But I struggle with the sugars and carbs!! I CRAVE them....not just want them, but truely CRAVE them. I have been known to make runs to the grocery store in the late evening for cookies! I have attempted the pouch test but lose control of the CARB MONSTER within. Anyone have any other ideas or suggestions??? I used to exercise at least 3-5 times a week but have slacked off to 1-3 times a week. I have little energy, but I know that I need to up the activity. I have tried journaling but lose interest.
Anyone have an ideas??? I need a swift kick in the rear.....I don't want to return to the old me!!!

Dawn - we would never admit it, but we believe we will fall over dead if we do not give in to a craving.  Disagree?  My grandmother used to ssy, "What you do speaks so loud I can't hear what you say"  Look at what you are doing.  Believe now?

Well, we won't fall over dead if we don't give in to a craving.  But, it is more than possible we will fall over dead if we give in to our cravings and become morbidly obese.

Our problem is about 1% physical and 99% mental/emotioal.  The same things trigger us to want to eat after surgery as trigger us to want to eat before surger. If we don't deal with the mental/emotional issues, we are doomed.  If we must put non-food soothers in place as self-soothing is a healthy part of life.  We won't re-invent the wheel.  We'll go back to eating.  There's no procedure we can't overcome and gain all + more weight back.  The surgeries aren't magic wands, they are simply tools.  If we had a tool box with 500 hammers in it but never took one out & use it, no nail would ever be driven into a board.  So it is with our tool of wls - we must use it - if we follow the guidelines, we will be successful.  If we don't follow the guidelines we will not.

Take it 5 minutes at a time (even we can not give in to our cravings for 5 minutes).  When that 5 minutes is up reward yourself in a non-food way (like a giant pat on the back), then another 5 minutes, another reward etc etc etc.  Sounds as though a big step in the right direction is to not allow yourself to get in your car.  Identify your thoughts that are triggering your cravings,  Identify your thoughts that let you off the hook to giving in to them.  Remember, as we think, so shall we eat.

What was it that was such a strong motivation that you wanted not one, but two surgies to achieve?  Many of us have found it very helpful to go to the guidelines that Cathy has at the top of our discussion page and begin to work one at a time on the changes we need to make.

Use the Cardio & Cafe thread for planning and accountability.

Please post ofent and let us know how we can help you.  Thank you for allowing us to share your journey.

WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER - YES WE CAN

Hello, I had GBS 2/04/04. I went from 339 lbs to 183 lbs, I am now at 218!! most of the weight came back on when I quit smoking 8 months ago and began grazing...all day long. I am so glad I visited the OH website, I haven't been here for a long time. I look forward to go "getting back on track"

Hi, thanks for responding to my post. I believe the networking with fellow GBS folks will help me to get back on  track, reading others experiences and advice will be of a great help to me. I have an appointment with my surgeon on 3/10, my insurance dropped him when he moved his practice to another county and I have not been back to him for 4 years. I will pay out of pocket in order to see a Dr. with the knowledge to help me.

perhaps us two "Sherrie's/Sheri" can work together on our common goal. I two seemed to have gained my weight back after quitting smoking in April of this year. went from 125 pds to 170pds...ugh...never thought this would ever be an issue in my life since I had maintained since 2006! now i regret quitting smoking and weighing the benifits of being a "heavy" non-smoker.....

who would ah thunk it??

Hello everyone,
I am new to the group..thank goodness there is a place I can go to for support. I was sleeved November 2009 and do have my struggles with staying on track. I look forward to getting advice from others and learning from other's experiences. To date I have lost 58lbs and have at least 77lbs more to go.
