Topic: Really afraid throwing up
I knowing that vomiting is a common side effect with wls and why it is, but knowing this hasn't help me much to deal with the anxiety that I feel whenever I think of how it will be post-op. (Some background) When I was 11 or 12 yrs old.  I had a severe case of food poisoning I mean really bad  I wouldn't eat beef for a very long time after the incident.
I was traumatized by it I have thrown up only once since then. If I feel like I'm going to puke I start to panic and have anxiety attacks.  So I was wondering How do you deal with it?  any advice and/or tips would be greatly appreciated.
My surgery date is Aug14th

My Pre-Op diet is an 14 day all liquid diet with one protein bar a day the actual list surprised me it was more on it then I thought would be it has things like broth, skim milk, choco skim milk, soy milk, tea plain, decaf coffee plain, hot coca plain,V8 tomato or fruit, tomato soup, cream of wheat/rice thin, grits, jello, pudding, meal replacement drinks, protein shakes, sugar-free Popsicles and any sugar-free drinks (not sodas).
That's basically all of it.  My pre-op starts next Tuesday 31st my surgery date is Aug 14Th

I have 2 weeks until surgery and I started my pre op diet yesterday. I would love to have your diet of meat and cheese. Something to make me feel like I've eaten something. I get 1000 cal and 115 grams of protein a day. All comes from protein powder in the form of shakes and adding it to jello and pudding. It's all soft solids like yogurt, applesauce, cream of wheat and V-8. All I can say is I'm hungry. At least after surgery I won't feel hungry!

Only one week to go for you! That's exciting! Can you drink protein shakes?

I am looking at 2 weeks until my surgery. My dr requires a 3 day clear liquid diet prior to my surgery. That will be pretty intense, but short so that is a good thing. My nutritionist was saying that the 3 day liquid diet has the same affect shrinking the liver as a 2 week low carb, protein shake with 1 small meal a day type diet that I hear a lot of drs require. I guess it just depends on the dr, but I'm pleased to only have 3 days to worry about.

I have actually started doing my own partial liquid diet anyway. I started that about a week ago. I let myself have one regular meal of whatever I want. Then I have a protein shake for the other two meals, sometimes a 3rd protein shake if I get too hungry. Then no really snacks in between except sugar free drinks, jello, pudding, maybe some cottage cheese if I'm dying for more substance. Doing this I have lost 3 lbs in the last week anyway which is a miracle since I have only been going up in weight, not down at all since I had my first meeting with my surgeon.

You are on your way! Not long now!

Topic: What is your Pre-Op Diet?
I'm guessing my doc is a little strange, because I'm on a low/no carb diet.  My instructions literally read meat, cheese, eggs and green veggies.  Do not exceed 20 g of carbs a day.  But to be honest, I'm getting tired of meat, cheese, eggs and green veggies.  I guess I should be thankful it's fairly easy.  Getting kind of excited...one week from today, I will be packing my bag so I can get to the hospital by 6:00 am....

Happy pre-op diet to all!!!

Topic: RE: Who are you telling about the surgery?
I have told  my childre, who are not kids, of course my boyfriend, my best friend of 31 years and two work friends. i will tell others after the surgery because they will notice me looking and eating differently.  It is better if I tell them than for the rumors and talking behind my back tstart.

Well, I pretty much shouted it from a mountain top, especially at work.  Will I live to regret it?  Probably, but c'est la vie.  As far as work, I told my director and my direct report managers and staff which is about 10 in 5 different cities.  So I'm pretty sure there are least five cities in the US aware of my journey....most were curious and wanted to ask questions.  Some said, "Oh, I've been thinking about looking into that...you go first."
My kids know (they are 23 and 25) and a few close friends outside of work.  I'm probably better friends with my work co-horts than some of my "friends" outside of work.  So far, very positive, supportive comments.  For anyone else, let them jugde me if they will, but I am the winner in the end.

Happy weekend to everyone.....
