Thanks so much for your reply Lenita :)
Thats true, in the past I probably would have had a
Big binge and said to myself, "I'll do better tomorrow".

I know this will be a long process, and I suspect in a way
After the surgery my tummy won't be grumbling (like it was
Tonight) and hopefully take away the need to over eat.

Im counting down the days til the surgery, hoping and
Praying for the best!

This just confirms for me I need some cognitive therapy
So I can REALLY fix my head, as well as my stomach!

Thanks again Lenita, you're the best!

Apparently some herbal items reek havoc conflict with some medications.  I guess they say quit all cuz better safe than sorry.  Six more sleeps 'til the big day....

Oh, Sierra....don't beat yourself up.  I think that may be what got many of us to where we are today.  "I screwed up a little, so I'll just quit".  Just get back on track and know you didn't jeopardize your upcoming surgery.  You at least acknowledged what you did and stopped at one.  Before this journey, if you are like me, I'd have just said, "screw it, and kept right on eating".  Bottom line, be kind to yourself and forgive your mistakes and get right back on track....

Good luck!!!!

Ok so, I feel like such an idiot already! Does anyone have anything like  this to share?

This pre-op diet is so hard!

This is my 3rd day on it and tonight I had something naughty :(

I had a crumpet with peanut butter :(

I stopped at one. But I'm kind of annoyed with myself because I wanted to follow the pre-op diet 100%
My surgeon made the mistake of telling me that it didn't matter if I did the diet or not because I'm technically a "lightweight" patient....

Afterwards I went and brushed my teeth and had some mint gum.

There's always tomorrow I Guess :)

Oh, you poor thing.  I also HATE to vomit.  I cry when I puke.  That should be really cute if I overdo it in a social setting or at work...
I think Sierra's advice was spot on.  Follow your plan to the letter and don't push any of the food phases.  Good luck.

Had my pre-op assessment Monday with the hospital.  Strangest thing was they said to stop anything with herbs in it now....at least a week pre-surgery.  I just bought a sample pack of different herbal teas.    Herbal tea was my bedtime go-to, was hooked on peppermint, but decided to broaden my  horizons....guess that will have to wait.

I think you just have to take it really easy.

My doctor said not many of his patients throw up cause they are coached how to eat.

I think it's a matter of following your eating plan to the book and not pushing your 'new' stomach.

Some tips I heard against throwing up are:

- Take small, frequent sips of water. (instead of big mouthfuls)
- Chew your food (when you get to that stage) really well so it's almost a liquid form in your mouth before you swallow. (we mostly tend to take a big bite, chew a couple of times and swallow, so it's a matter of retraining yourself in how to eat.)
- Don't mix food and drink. For quite some time, you will just be able to eat with no drink. Then drink with no food.

That's what I've taken away from talking to people and research.

Hope you don't have a bad experience, just do your best to stay positive and communicate your anxiety about this to the doctor and nurses, they will do your best to help you avoid this.

Goodluck!

p.s. VSG is the best surgery to get in terms of not throwing up - it'd be a different story if you were getting a GBP or LB :)

Topic: RE: What is your Pre-Op Diet?
I started my pre-op diet yesterday.

Mine is 'Optifast' which is a meal replacement regieme.
So it's soup, bar or milkshake and then I can have 2 cups of vegetables/salad a day & a table spoon of oils/fats.

I also have peppermint tea, chamomile tea and diet Jelly (Jello).

So far so good, kinda dizzy and headachey, but that's to be expected I guess!

13 sleeps to go.

Man, this is crazy!!!! I still can't believe it's actually happening! :D
