Topic: RE: Who are you telling about the surgery?
How old are your kids? I can't really tell how my kids feel about it yet. My youngest is only 7 so she is mostly curious. My older two are 16 (daughter) and 19 (son) which are harder ages to read. I think my older daughter is one that will believe it when she sees it since she has watched me fail on so many diets. My son is kind of wrapped up in college and keeps forgetting about my surgery....oh yeah that's right LOL

Topic: RE: Who are you telling about the surgery?
I have told my family (husband, kids, sister, parents, MIL) and coworkers since I blocked off the whole month of August just about a couple of weeks ago. I have told my 2 best friends whom I don't really get to see often but we are in contact a lot.
I have only told 2 other people in the gymnastics world (my 2 daughters LIVE this sport) ... their head coach and a mom of one of the other girls on the high school team. Their coach is more than a coach. My older daughter has been with her for 8 years now and my youngest (only 7 yrs old) for 3 years. I do alot for their coach for graphics in the gym and a program and I am VP of the high school gymnastics team booster club. Oh and I groom her dogs too LOL wear many hats!
I think I will be more open after surgery...what's done is done at that point...they can like it or not since at that point it won't matter so much. Like you said people will notice the weight loss and get curious pretty quick after the surgery. I figure I will decide how detailed to get about it depending who the person is. I'm a pretty open person. I will probably tell the wrong person too much at some point. So far the worst I've gotten is curiousity and surprise, but all have been supportive.

So far I have told my family and a few close friends. One of my friends had the lap band and one had gastric bypass. I just told my kids about a week ago. They are excited for the things I will be able to do with them.

Gotta love family when they come through like that. It's great that you have such support from them. We have pretty good insurance coverage through my husband's job....can't complain.

Topic: Who are you telling about the surgery?
Good idea Lenita J. I've also been wondering the same thing, who to tell about the surgery and who not to...?
At this stage I'm only telling family, my boyfriend, and I've told one friend who also struggles with her weight and we have spoken many hours about health and weight loss.
I was thipnking the same thing about work... People will be very suss, you go away for 2 weeks, come back and you're eating differently and are dropping weight.
Mmmm, a tough one...

We'll all get through it. I may have to hibernate for the pre-op diet phase, but.....OK, so how many people did you share your decision with? Me...mostly work people who would figure it out when I was out for a few weeks and suddenly started dropping weight. A few good friends and that is about it. Not even my family with the exception of my son and daughter.
Good luck everyone!!!

Nah, it doesn't take 12 months if you have the right level of cover, I have basic private cover, but you need the really expensive level of coverage to not have to pay through the nose.
If I choose to change my level of cover, I then have to wait 12months to become elligable for the surgery to be covered. It makes sense, so people don't jump around in cover to suit them... But i still find it lame, haha. I don't think Australian health funds realize its as amazing as it is!
2500! That's amazing, you're blessed!!
Well, just quietly, there's no way I can afford to self fund but I do have very generous and VERY patient family that are letting me borrow the money :)
