IM TELLING EVERYONE.  I DONT THINK THAT LOSING 100 LBS, GOD WILLING, WILL GO UNOTICED SO I AM JUST UP FRONT AND HONEST WITH EVERYONE.  I ALSO LIKE TO MAYBE INSPIRE PEOPLE WHO ARE STRUGGLING WITH THE WEIGHT TO TAKE A CHANCE AND PUT THEMSELVES FIRST.  YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH.  GOOD LUCK!

I have told  my childre, who are not kids, of course my boyfriend, my best friend of 31 years and two work friends. i will tell others after the surgery because they will notice me looking and eating differently.  It is better if I tell them than for the rumors and talking behind my back tstart.

I have told my family, a few friends and a few people at work. When I have the surgery I know people will ask how have you lost weight.. I am not going to lie and just say oh I have been eating better. I am going to tell them.

I only told a few people before the surgery, just in case something happened and it had to be canceled (that was my worst fear). But, once it was over I posted a status about it on fb, and that included a lot of coworkers and even my boss.

I have some friends who have been nervous about being embarrased, but since I have SO much to lose, I know everyone will notice, and I figured I would rather be up front than have people gossip or whisper. And I thought that if I was private about it, then it would seem like I was ashamed, and I didn't want to give that impression.

I work in a university setting, though, so I'm really in a situation where something like this could hurt my job evaluation, etc.

I am in a weird situation at work.  I am in the medical field, and I see about 20 or more patients a day. I also do counselling on diet and exercise for some of my patients, and have followed them through many of the same issues that I have had.  I have told my partners and my staff what is going on (because we are a small office and they will notice that I am only eating liquids, and that I am taking a week off of work).  All have seemed really happy for me.

My big concern is what do about telling my patients.  I have already decided to tell the folks that are struggling with losing a lot of weight if they ask, or if they are considering surgery.  I have a lot of skinny patients who I know are going to comment on my weight loss (they only see me every 6 - 12 months, so I'm sure that the change will seem drastic).  I am not going to lie, but I am feeling grouchy when I think about the responses that I will get.  I also feel a bit of a responsibility to take some of the stigma away from weight loss surgery, and I feel like telling people the whole truth would help.  It's amazing how many of my (skinny) patients feel like they have the duty to comment on my weight...

As for my family and friends, have told all of the important folks, and am willing to tell anyone who asks.  My kids (5 and 8) are excited for me to have more energy and keep up while hiking with them.  I feel like I need to be a weight loss surgery embassador, and I don't want anyone to worry that I have cancer....
