Topic: RE: Keeping the weight off
Kerry...Fpr me it`s an every day struggle. Due to the fact that I don`t dump and can eat anything and a fairly large quantity I have to fight all the time. I had gained some over the holidays so on the 20th of January I went back to watching closely what I eat and in those 16 days I have lost up to 4.6 pounds and also gained up to 1 pound over what I started at. I am up and down and up and down with no real loss showing on the scales. All that with being quite "good" with my eating. As of this morning I was up .6 pounds from where I started 16 days ago, so it does get discouraging. Exercise and support help me some. I go to WW meetings and those help a lot. The people there have similar struggles to mine. As far as a good answer I don`t have one, I just work at controlling my addiction every day. Of course some days are better than others. Maybe someone here will have the solution. At least we can hope. Alice

Topic: Keeping the weight off
Hi Sherry One of my main concerns I would like to see up on this board is how people keep the weight off and deal with actual hunger (NOT head hunger) as time goes on your stomach stretches? Kerry

I got the chewables in and they aren`t bad. They last a long time if you suck on them so it keeps my mind off snacking for a blt. Not bad. I think I`ll continue with them.

I have started to look into this and because I love chewables, they make me think I`m eating a treat, I have found one brand in chewable online. It is by Solaray, I think. I haven`t ordered them yet but I think I will. If anyone finds any others or finds them locally please let me know. Alice

Topic: Vitamin B Complex

Dr. Ellner called last week to tell me about new research concerning Vitamin B Complex.  She said to tell the group that in addition to our multivitamins and our sublingual B-12 we should be taking a Vitamin B Complex daily.  Those who have had gastric bypass surgery are now showing up Vitamin B deficient.  Also, I just got a message from another group leader in Mesa, Arizona who said her surgeon said some of it has to do also with caffiene blocking absorption.   Dr. Ellner further stated that one of the most important things to remember in choosing a supplement is the rate at which it dissolves.  Your vitamins should dissolve in room temp water within 10-15 minutes.  The first ones I purchased from Safeway (Shiff brand at $16 a bottle) did not dissolve.  The cheap-o Safeway brand ($5) dissolved in 25 minutes.  You can also find a B Complex at Bariatric Advantage or Dr. Ellner's webpage estore.  If anyone finds them elsewhere and does the water-test, please share your info with the rest of us. Sherry :)

Topic: The Next Frontier Weight Loss Support Group

This is the next phase in supporting our Fairbanks WLS group members who are 1+ years post op.  In response to many members of the Alvarado Surgical Weight Loss Support Group's request to provide a forum or support to members who are beyond that "Golden Year" and whose needs are not being met in the regular group meetings and with the support of ObesityHelp.com, we have created this website.  I have spoken to Dr. Ellner and she believes this is a fabulous way to reach those members who are out of surgery for over a year, and who are not able to attend regular group meetings or needs are not addressed in the regular meetings.  Dr. Ellner stated that she would also love to join our on-line chat once in a while to offer advise, discuss new developments in the field of bariatrics and provide support.  I have also spoken to Suze Gilbreath, a licensed therapist, who would also love to join our group once in a while to discuss issues that are specific to our needs. Please comment on some of the issues you would like to see discussed.  We will be setting up a specific date and time when we will meet on-line. :) Sherry
