Topic: RE: Question?
Well said SheSparksATL - that's basically my MO too. The ones that NEED to know, do. The ones that DON'T need to know, don't. It's a simple as that! I struggled with the decision to tell my boss - but only b/c he's a health nut. I don't need to request time off, b/c I work for a large university and my surgery is scheduled for the day we get out for our Christmas break. But in the end, just in case there were any complications, I wanted to be honest with him and LO AND BEHOLD, he was EXTREMELY supportive! The only "opposition" that I've encounterd is from an old friend who actually has the RNY done 6 years ago. She's had many complications, mostly self-inflicted and now thinks that having the surgery ruined her life. She did everything in her power to talk me out of this over the weekend, but I'm strong and I know that this surgery is the right decision for ME! My immediate family (hubby, kids, and mom) are VERY supportive as are my closest friends - in fact, my BFF and I are going in together for the procedure!
Honestly you don't have to explain your actions to ANYONE that you don't choose to. If they are negative now, just wait until you start losing the weight - then the jealousy will start and the negativity will really ramp up. In the end, you'll know who your true friends are!
Good luck!

VSG scheduled for Dec. 22. Day 6 of the pre-op and I just realized that I forgot to drink my 10am protein shake! Check ya'll later!
Topic: RE: Anyone else having to add fiber??
Looks like we are both having the surgery the same day (well within one day of each other - I'm scheduled for Dec. 22). I'm 6 days into the pre-op and my only "problem" is a little constipation. My nutritionist said to expect BMs only every 2-3 days, and I'm okay with that (not really, I'm definately more of a 1-2/DAY kind of girl), but what she didn't mention is that the actual act of GOING would be so uncomfortable. I plan to start taking stool softeners or a mild laxative today.
Are you taking the fiber to help feel "full" or to aid in BMs?
Topic: Anyone else having to add fiber??
I am a week out from my surgery and working the Atkins diet hard. Doing pretty good too - maintaining my will power and the scale is moving in the right direction. :-) But I've noticed that I really miss having the fiber in my diet that many of my whole grains provided. So I've been adding Benefiber to a meal or snack at least twice a day. BIG help. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same?

Topic: RE: Differences based on country
We had 6 months of preparation, and although I would have liked to have had my surgery right away, I think that waiting period is an important time to reevaluate the situation, digest important information and demonstrate your commitment to yourself. I hated it, but I learned a lot about myself through the process... and that's what the WLS journey is about. In addition, the reason the process was put into place was because the insurance companies saw that people were failing in great numbers when they were not provided a structured system and courses over an extended period of time so that is why they started implementing it now.
Topic: RE: Dreams
I haven't been dreaming of food...but I have had a very difficult time sleeping. I am 13 days away from my surgery and it seems like it has taken over my brain. Just about every other thought is about either the surgery or the food changes or what I am going to eat or drink next and of course what I will not be eating or drinking next! LOL!! I am sure your dream is normal. Most likely just a reflection of whats been on your mind lately. Hang in there - you are on your way.

Hermio and Daisy_Rose, you are both on my prayer list tonight. You are going to be fine tomorrow.
All the preparations are going to be worth it.
