The diet before the surgery is in my opinion tougher than the diet after surgery, because after surgery you don't have the hunger. I have the Realize Band which is similar to the Lap-Band, just a different manufacturer. My six months flew by and I was amazed to be having surgery in Sept. Today is eleven weeks since my surgery and I am amazed. My weight loss has slowed, I feel I have been battling the same three pounds for two weeks now. I have still made amazing progress. Last Feb I weighed 308. Currently I weigh 248. And Feb 2009, I wonder what I will weigh? I have dropped from 24-26W sizes to 18-20W, and my joint pain is almost completely gone. I did the surgery in a preventive measure, before I had any serious health conditions or co-morbidities.
If the 1200 calorie diet starts to wear your patience, just think of it like this: The multiple years spent being overweight versus a six month period of effort and sacrifice. There is no comparision, the results are worth the effort. The dieting is not just a random insurance requirement either, it actually helps prepare you for surgery and lowers your risks of complications. And the surgery is not the end, but the begining of a new chapter and the effort must continue on your part to be sucessful. Good luck.
My name is jana and i am from the Parkersburg area. I had my first visit with Dr Shin last Thursday. I am starting my 6 months. I came here to see what other people experienced with lap band and what to expect. Keep me in your prayers that I can with stand this 1200 calorie diet and can make it. I feel like I am seeing the light at the end of a very long tunnel. :-)

Dr. Shins office called me today and said that all of my records are in order and all I needed was my psych evaluation which she scheduled for this Wednesday then I would be ready to submit to my insurance.I have BC BS Federal Insurance so she said we should know something this week .So keep me in your prayers ,I'm so ready for this

The Beckley WLS Support Group meeting will be held on Monday, November 17, from 7:00-9:00pm at Raleigh General Hospital on Harper Road, Beckley. Guests are welcome and everyone is encouraged to attend! We will meet in room "B" in the new Education Center (located on the Kroger-side of the hospital towards the rear of the lot). You will see a wheelchair ramp and some steps leading to a glass door. There is parking to the rear of the building, as well as in the main parking lot.
This month: Vitamin and supplement review. Protein bar samples. Plan our Christmas Party in December! Also, regular discussion about weight-loss surgery, food, plastic surgery, and anything important to you! If you have ideas or requests for future meetings, please feel free to share them!
Clothing Exchanges: You are welcome to bring any clothes that no longer fit you to give to others that might be able to use them. You do not have to bring clothing to take clothing, and bringing clothing is not required.
Restaurant cards for Dr. Shin and Dr. Stickler's patients (as well as some other area doctors) will be available for anyone who needs one. If you need a card for a specific doctor, please email me with your doctor's name, address and telephone number.

yes the kids are keeping me busy esp since Thursday my husband and I watching them until they finally release DP I am starting to get concerned I finally did talk to her a little today she sounded so weak and still sick at her stomach and this is day 3 I dont remember being sick at my stomach that long??? was you? maybe I just forgot
now they are saying Monday or tuesday will be her go home day
made our motel reservations this morning for Saturday night I hope all is ok with DP by then I will feel awful if it isnt but I truly need to get back I have an important dr appt the day before thanksgiving I am praying she will be home by then if not I dont know what I will do I guess stay and reschedule that appt but I really dont want to it is a scarey appt I need to go to....
