Hi, Karen! Congratulations on your surgery date of 2/3. I envy you! I'm hoping for a March date. I would like to know if you have found a protein product that you particularly like or dislike. Thanks much, - Pat
Hi Pat
My name is Karen and I live in Bluefield. I am having the vertical sleeve surgery on 2/3 with Dr. Stickler in Charleston. I don't write much on hear because I really don't have much to say that is going to encourage anyone else right now. Maybe if my surgery goes well, I will be more at ease to share then. I hope your surgery goes well and you have much success!!

I haven't made it as far yet. I am still on my 3rd month of 6 month supervised weight loss program for my insurance. From what i understand from other people on the board it doesn't take very long to get approved by the insurance. I thought most people said 2 weeks at the most. Let me know what they say!
I am also looking forward to this year. It will be a great one! I went to my appt with the nurse yesterday at dr shins office and I managed to lose 4.5 lbs ,,, even during the holidays. I was amaazed of what cutting things out of my diet would do and exercise. So i am now starting my 3rd month.
Have a good day!
for myself I have experienced a lot of different diets and have lost and gained back plus more. I finally hit my "low point" this past fall and decided to get help. I think it was the hardest admitting to myself that I had a problem with my weight and needed help. A coworker of mine had the lapband procedure with Dr Shin in Charleston and he said it was the best decision he ever made.
Dr Shin is a wonderful doctor and his whole staff is very caring and passionate with what they do. I have to do 6 months of supervised weight loss for insurance approval and I am starting my 3rd month today. They walk you through everything that you need to do to prepare for the surgery.
I decided to go with lapband because it is less invasive and my husband and I want to have children one day and I want to be healthy. I know with lapband your body still keeps all of the vitamins and nutrients from the food. That is one of the reasons why I chose lapband.
Good luck with your decision.
My next step is a meeting with the nutritionist on Friday 01/16/09. After that, I guess it's wait and see with the insurance company.
I hope everyone had a great holiday and I'm looking forward to finding the new "me" in 2009!
Take care,
Jim
My advice is to research all the surgeries with an open mind. Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies is recommended often. Only you can decide wich surgery is best for you. You must understand your eating habits and what you need to overcome them.
Once you understand the surgeries you can find a surgeon that does the surgery you want and talk to them about it. It took me years to decide to get the Band.
Good luck and see you around. Crystal
