If I decide to have bariatric surgery and pay for it without insurance, do I still have to go through the lengthy process of supervised diets and the multitude of tests if I have had them done in the recent past? Just curious...

Welcome, Julie! It sounds like you have it made - insurance wise. Most of us have either a 3 or 6 month supervised period prior to surgery. It will be good to hear from another WV voice!!

Well, being on this site is a great start. Read, read, read all you can. Any weight loss surgery is going to bring a life long change to you and your body and you have to make sure you kow what you are getting in to. The deciding factor for me was when I had to start taking four meds a day just to live. Losing the weight will probably get me off of all of them. Everyone has a different reason for making the decision and if its right for you then you will know.

I am new to the boards too. I live in Berkely County, the Eastern Panhandle. I just had my first consult with my surgeon last week but they are expecting that I will be banded in March or April. I really lucked out apparently I have one of the easiest insurances to work with. The woman at the surgeons office was thrilled when she saw my insurance card. So everyone keep your fingers crossed for me. Anyway I can't give much in the way of advice but I am more than willing to give extra support to anyone that needs it. Feel free to let me know if I can help any of you as I am sure that I will be leaning on many of you in the months to come.

Hi, Laureen and Jana. I am also on the boards daily and would like to keep up with what everyone here in WV is doing. Laureen, I've been wondering about taking medications after lap band surgery. Is that a problem or do we need to crush them?
Jana, I also love Dr. Shin and enjoy talking with the girls in his office. They are so helpful. I use the gym at his office 4 days/week. (Weight-loss Center gym).

I am putting myself at the top of my list as we all should. I live in Rockport which is an hour above Charleston.
I would love to keep this board going. I go on the Lap Band forum a lot.

Had Lap bad April 16, 2007 at 14 months i had lost 145 pounds.
It has been slowing down. I fall off the wagon now and than But I'm not perfect.
And I get back right away. Had to pay out of pocket for surgery, was refused from insurance company. Best money I ever sent. Best Doc in the World......
Have to remember to do you protein and drink and to be truthful......I'm not the best on exercising but I do try to get in a 3 days sometimes more. Weather a factor right now I like to walk

Hi I'm Ellen and I live in Charleston. After a lot of drama, changing insurance companies and one postponement, I'm having lap-band surgery with Dr. Shin. I'm starting to get excited and nervous too ... face it, I'm breaking up with my BFF Food and it's not an easy process.

My name is Ginger and I live in Brushfork I go to Deliverance Temple and sing in the chore with Ann.I knew you were trying to have the surgery from talking with Ann but didn't know you had been approved that's great I'm SO happy for you .
I know you have been wanting this for awhile .I'm having mine Wednesday at 10:30 and Dr. Shin is doing mine . I cant sleep a wink so I guess I'll be doing some cleaning .Anyways if you just want to talk or anything call Ann she has my number. Well I know your mom is a praying women so you guys remember me in prayer Wednesday 
and I'll be talking to ya
