Hi Pat!

I posted a blog on my page. I went Monday to my monthly checkin. I didn't lose any weight but I lost some inches. I am starting my 4th month now. It's going by so fast. I didn't think it would but it is. 2 months to go!!!!  I am so excited. There is a lot that I have to do from now until then.

Hugs to you as well!!!!((((((((hugs))))))))

Hi, everyone!  Went to my first support group meeting yesterday at Womens and Childrens in Charleston.  It was nice to meet with others to discuss WLS and put some faces with the names seen here.  I met Joy (Butterjoy) which was a treat for me!  Her smile alone would give her away!! Several people commented about wanting to see more activity on the WV forum site here.  (Myself included.)  Cira has offered to start a thread each day to get us going.  (Thanks, Cira!!)   The speaker talked about protein last night.  When the body needs protein it will take it from areas first that are not critical, such as your hair.  Hence the hair loss.  She had several protein drinks and bars for us to sample and purchase, if desired.  It was an interesting meeting.

Now ... how about some updates ... Karen and Ginger from Bluefield, Laureen from Wheeling, Ellen, Crystal and Joy from Charleston, Jana from Rockport, Julie from Berkely County, Mary Kay from Bridgeport, Dottie from Procious, Melinda from Nitro, Cira from Charles Town, Panhead from Barboursville  to name a few.  How is everyone doing?

As for me, I met with the phycologist on Monday.  5 hours; most of which was completing paperwork.  So, hopefully, that can be checked off my to do list of pre-op stuff.  What about you?

Hugs,  -  Pat

Dodging the Exercise Roller Coaster

Fun Workouts, No Matter Where You Are

-- By Mike Kramer, SparkPeople Contributor

Have you ridden the Exercise Vortex? It’s the most popular fitness roller coaster of all time.

You go up, you go down. Fast fitness climbs are interrupted by burnout and steep drops in activity--until you bottom out and start another cycle. And in the end, you’re right back where you started. Half the time, it just leaves you with a headache. If you don’t like what you see, you can always get on the latest and greatest fitness coaster. But you’ll still be taken for a ride.

You can stay off the coaster and get into consistency. All it takes is a little planning--and a lot of fun. The key is to build an exercise program that’s not stale, boring or disruptive. Now--while you still have momentum--is the perfect time to set up some smart, convenient systems and motivating reminders. Here are some smart strategies:

Combine Exercise With Other Goals
Most exercise programs fail because they work against instead of with your current goals. Instead of competing for time, perhaps your goals could share it.

    IDEAS

  • Read while on the stationary bike

  • Play with kids

  • Hold a work meeting at the gym or while jogging or walking outside

  • Work out or play sports with friends

  • Do a home workout while watching a basketball game or movie you want to see.

Take Exercise Out of The Gym
Which is easier to reschedule, a two-hour meeting or a series of five-minute chats? Take advantage of all those chances throughout the day to stay on your feet and stay active.

        AT WORK

  • Find a few sturdy, thick phone books and do some step aerobics.

  • Close your door and shadow box for a few minutes.

  • Lift 1-3 packs of printer paper in each hand. Curl them like weights or lift them over your head.

  • Jumping jacks. Simple, quick, and pumps you up.

        AT HOME

  • Get out the rake and shovel.

  • Try some gardening.

  • Walk to your neighbor’s house to visit instead of calling.

  • If you mus****ch TV, do a quick exercise during commercials.

  • Sprint – don’t walk – to the mailbox.

  • Walk up and down the stairs while on the phone.

    Create an In-Home Workout
Smaller workouts can take the pressure off of those more intense visits to the gym – and without all that expensive equipment. Just 20 minutes a day is all it takes, which just happens to be the same amount of drive time you’d probably save.

Topic: Ask the Experts (Topic: Water)
TopicQuestion:

Can other drinks such as diet sodas and herbal tea count towards my 8 glasses of water for the day?

Answer:

The latest recommendations from the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science, Dietary Reference Intake for Electrolytes and Water say:

"The fluids consumed do not have to be only water. Individuals can obtain their fluids from a variety of beverages and foods. Contrary to popular opinion, consumers do not need to consume 'eight glasses of water a day' to meet their fluid needs."

However my own personal opinion, particularly for people trying to lose weight, is to encourage additional water intake whenever possible. I feel it helps to cleanse the body when weight loss and fat breakdown is occurring. I also know that it helps to keep the hands and mouth busy, so snacking is less. This is a form of behavior modification. I personally know that many people feel better when at least 4-6 glasses of plain old H2O is consumed to help meet total fluid needs.

Just wanted to share this information with you all.
Have a great day!

I hope this helps with everyone who are having difficulties reaching their daily requirement of fluids.
